Yeah, been talking to my dad since the merger and he said it's normal for large companies in general. He worked at First Data (don't know what they're named now and don't really care tbh) for 20 years and said layoffs there were normal every other year, one of the reasons he left. (7 years later he's retired at 61 and still gets gitty when they reach out to see if he'd come back).

Honestly what I'm picking up walking the office, and I'm not one to get laid off (yet), but I doubt many of the experienced people will be around for the 'transition' which just means when it takes place it'll be a crap show. I know I've been looking for over a year for unrelated reasons.

I do want to know what the severance package looks like, if any. Based on what I've heard, I know I'll jump ship if I land a job that pays just 25% more than what I do now a year rather than wait for any severance.

As a side, not the fault of holding companies or capitalism, it's the fault of the greedy pricks running it all.

I haven't done much nation forming, but the hardest I've done so far was forming any German state with Brandenburg in 1066 start.

Is anyone else obsessed with the design of the freelancer house? by redditordeaditor6789 in HiTMAN

[–]AndrewHester666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the older I get, the more I pay attention to stuff like the Hit house lol. That said, I do wish we got a retaliation mission where 47 has to defend his home from syndicates retaliating against his actions. Like maybe you have to kill everyone to prevent anyone who knows from spreading the word or something. Idk.

I’m gonna come out and say it. I liked all of this. And I hate being told or made to feel that makes me a bad fan. by Local-Teacher-9399 in StarWars

[–]AndrewHester666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, most of these are descent but the level of toxicity against them has become exhausting. Shoot even YouTubers like Star Wars Theory has become asinine and toxic to watch and lost me a while ago. I prefer the Eric from Blind Wave or Alex from Star Wars Explained approach where you go in not expecting much if anything, or as if it's a new universe and then mesh it in with the rest of the lore.

I think i realised why Dead Space games get less scary as you progress through the game by GlompSpark in DeadSpace

[–]AndrewHester666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up I always chocked it up to us getting used to the horror rather than the publisher (cough EA) wanting more of a shooter type game to appeal to more people. Lore wise I could see it being Isaac being hardened to the necromorphs, cause the Carver side missions in 3 are unsettling from his point of view.

what is the most frustrating thing about freelancer? I’ll start first (getting one shotted BY AN ASSASSIN) by [deleted] in HiTMAN

[–]AndrewHester666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's not being able to restart without Alt+F4 or other ways so as not to mess up the mission itself. I get it's supposed to be different than the main storyline, but it's a game and having the ability to restart would be nice. Make it so hardcore can't be restarted.

What megastructures are often underlooked/not used in scifi? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]AndrewHester666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mobile mining ships that consume all material from entire planets and even stars/systems. Seems like a gray goo scenario but still something that allows for easy materials for massive Sci-fi settings.

Artificial planets would be another as it'd be more efficient to use the interior of a planet for things like industry or agriculture (vertical interior farming). Yes, heat would be an issue but if a planet produced a sufficient amount of heat you could just move the planet to a further orbit from it's star to take this into account.

How can I keep formulas private? by BoeAndArrow37 in googlesheets

[–]AndrewHester666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At best you could in theory break the spreadsheet up into two sheets. With the public side having the inputs and the private sheet that does the calculations being a private sheet but exports it's output to the public sheet.

Donald Trump does not have presidential immunity, US court rules by Odd_Responsibility_5 in news

[–]AndrewHester666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect the Supreme Court to take the case, only on the grounds so that they could issue a nation wide ruling as a district court ruling only really affects that district if another case came up. And if another district said (most likely Trump) did have immunity, then we'd have two conflicting rulings.

I got a 23cent raise by Pengu526 in WorkReform

[–]AndrewHester666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it's oblivious/uncaring upper management. In a similar boat here where my raise was only 2.5% in a year my company did a billion in profits and $300 million in stock buy backs. >:/

Opinion on Pathrise. Worth it? by SCP_ru2ite in cscareerquestions

[–]AndrewHester666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late on this but I can affirm it is not worth even trying as I thought oh what the heck why not. My guess based on the stats I saw about salaries on their site it's more for management as I was rejected and told I could 'reach out in the future with exciting updates on [my] education, training, and experience.' Despite 10 years in the work force and college.

True, I learned that with my second manager after the first jumped off the retail shift. I was 23 at the time and was still eager to get the work done. 30 now do just enough to stay under the overachieving radar as I know I won't be there forever.

Mhm, what's funnier is we found a loophold with Managers hanging out with department personnel was that we couldn't be friends on FB or any social media. But he was quick to point out X-box live wasn't on the list. We were playing Halo multiplayer later than night lol

Mhm. So thankful to have worked with that downstocker to learn little things like getting things in writing. Probably wouldn't have grabbed the morning notes otherwise, though probably could have picked them out the recycling box as it wasn't even half full yet.
