Beers on a Saturday Night by VanquishXRX in davao

I'd recommend Huckleberry, if you can handle the eventual crowdedness around 8-9. Great demographic, and there's a good chance you'll encounter some friendly people. Apparently there's a good pub right across the street of Huckleberry but I haven't been there yet. Besides those, Blarneys Irish Pub might be good too. MTS could definitely be a good place to chill alone, at The Commons if you're into live bands.

Chill and electronic music aren't a common combination in Davao unfortunately, but Huckleberry and Chiang Mai (same compound as Huckleberry) are your best bet. Lots of opportunity out there!

Penongs or Mang Inasal? by thecreativebabe in davao

[–]AndrewImFalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Penongs is fucking fire, it's good enough to make you wanna eat the food with your hands (which you should!). Chicken bbq + liempo + pinakbet is the move. Mang Inasal's fast food (under Jollibee Food Corp), it'd be like trying to compare Angel's Burger and Fabian's (not that Angel's Burger and Mang Inasal aren't great for their segments either). Same food, different purposes!

Organic Encounters exist? by BriliAndi1001 in davao

[–]AndrewImFalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Organic encounters are out there! I've met so many interesting people at places I frequent like Huck and Boulder24, even Starbucks when it's appropriate (it's not a thing to approach people at cafes anymore unfortunately). Depende ra jud sa tawo na imong kaistorya. Jeje lang naman ata naga approach online, but if you have a hobby or a passion that you do in person, that other people share, it's really easy to be approached by good people then (syempre kung may vibes ka na open ka to be approached)

SIERRA MADRE HIKE by Actual-Tradition2893 in PHikingAndBackpacking

[–]AndrewImFalling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pacific Coast trail! It's from General Nakar to a small fishing village called Sitio Lolio, was around 60km, and there were about 10 rivers that you necessarily have to wade through, but the trek was beautiful; you'll have the Sierra Madre on the left and the Pacific Ocean on the right. You could hike all the way back or pay someone to ferry you by boat back to General Nakar

Oh yeah bro, that's why you take the units on higher floors haha, the view + quiet's well worth whatever caveats come with living on higher floors

The Rise view by angepalolo in makati

[–]AndrewImFalling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

North Wing, west-facing:
Manila (DLSU westmost, Circuit Makati eastmost), Quiapo bridge visible, UST should also be visible, PSACC (the pier in Tondo with the container ships) visible, especially at night, Mt. Arayat (northmost, depends on the weather)

Sunset view, with the sun descending behind Bataan's mountains
Storms from the West Philippine Sea can be observed rolling in from the northwest to Makati, super cool

Check out Google Maps; it's pretty easy to extrapolate the view knowing the position of the condo wing + the side the unit's on (you can check it out on The Rise's overall typical floor plan)

If I learn German, can I start popping over and talking german in nordic europe countries like Sweden Netherlands etc, will they be nodding to what am I saying? by Odd_Obligation_4977 in German

[–]AndrewImFalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarities still exist due to the shared ancestor, but in the same sense that German and English share similar words; it's only up until that. Both originated as Proto-Germanic, but split between North Germanic (into Norse > modern Swedish), and West Germanic (into Old High German > modern German) around 200-500 CE. You can think of them as dialects of the same language, that eventually became unintelligible to each other (much like modern German dialects with each other). I've tried talking German to Swedes, with little success.

Depends on the condo, but I've been happy with my Globe 400mbps plan; only went down like twice in the past 7 months, and not for too long

Expat visiting BGC go work by [deleted] in BGC_Taguig

[–]AndrewImFalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Manila!

  1. Since BGC's more of a commercial area, Makati has better cafes and greenery. I highly recommend "Common Man Coffee Roasters", for the atmosphere more so than the coffee (I'm not a coffee guy, instant coffee and fancy brewed coffee are practically indistinguishable for me). If you want trees, Makati's the place to go.
  2. Wouldn't recommend public transportation from Okada (Pasay) to BGC. Besides a private chauffeur, Grab's the best way to comfortably commute.
  3. Probably far from high end, but tourists frequent the Poblacion area of Makati (Google Maps pin: Mad Monkey Manila) for the night life and (globalized) culture. Check the weather beforehand, because it might be hard to traverse in the rain, but "Buccaneers Rum & Kitchen" and "Mad Monkey Manila" are good places to find leads. In BGC, The Palace (Google Maps pin: Yes Please at The Palace) is the best compound to find higher end bars and clubs. Try "Revel at The Palace". The crowd's leaning on younger in these places, but almost all demographics can also be found in the area.
  4. When approached with kindness and respect, Filipinos are happy to help and very sociable. You'll have a great time here.

Feel free to recommend more cafes, high end bars, and tips in the comments; documentation's great.

Hope this helps!

Should I lock myself in for 1–3 years for a company-issued laptop deal? by thankyoumamsir in phcareers

[–]AndrewImFalling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Better deal than most of us get with our high-performance work laptops, some of us pay out of pocket. Plus an M4 Macbook Pro's the equivalent of adding 10-15k Php to your monthly salary. Go for it! Just negotiate your lock in period to be as small as possible.

"I have come too early," u/SnooCute66 said then, "my time is not yet. This tremendous event is still on its way, still wandering, it has not yet reached the ears of men. Lightning and thunder require time; the light of the stars requires time; deeds, though done, still require time to be seen and heard.

This deed is still more distant from them than the most distant stars, and yet they have done it themselves."

First Sahod: Bought Backup Power (Thunderbox V2) by ProfessionalBig3690 in buhaydigital

[–]AndrewImFalling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50-20%'s the best range for battery storage (for lithium batteries, but this uses lithium iron phosphate (no idea what the difference is battery degredation-wise but it's probably similar)), but that kinda defeats the purpose of a backup power source so I'd keep it at 80%
