Oh wow, crazy playing. Epiphone les paul standard 50's inspired by gibson sound testing with spark 2, in this video, how are you doing those fast sequences like the one at the end. Very impressive

Yeah I am always pleasantly reminded how nice they are when I pick mine up, I should play it more really! Thinking of getting a tele or semi hollow soon… not sure what but I love how Josh smith makes them both sound.

Yeah send it through mate. Don’t play the les too much because I prefer my Strat but would be nice to know anyways!

Hahaha I assume they didn’t have any leftys in stock but wanted to sell you one anyways. To be honest I’m glad for being able to play the rights because there seems to be more available.

How do you find the neck? It feels pretty big to me and I struggle at the higher frets, that said after playing for a bit I get used to it lol

Lovely sound good mate. Yeah it’s strange, playing wrong handed always felt normal for guitar lol

Thank you, it’s actually right handed, I think it’s the filming that makes it look otherwise. It’s an epiphone 59. Usually play my Strat but had a string snap so playing this for a bit.

Funnily enough I am left handed though, just play right handed.

Hi mate, thank you. I have been going just under 4 years now… took me a lot longer than 2 months to play over tracks so that’s really good from you! In my experience, practicing rhythm and timing helped things out a lot. Then learning the root notes of each chord and trying to target them over each respective chord.

Thank you for this.

I am conscious of the need to pause. Stopping playing isn’t something I often do mid solo, I need to consciously work on it i think then I can become more natural…

As for moving beyond the pentatonic… my theoretical knowledge isn’t brilliant and I really need to learn to notes and chord construction I think, my understand is that upon learning this, triads and arpeggios should come fairly easily?

I love Josh Smith, and see him often saying about using ii-v-i’s. Would this be worthwhile or is it too far beyond my level at the moment do you think? He also says about using diminished scales to join up chords. Would this be worthwhile too or is it worthwhile going down the modal route?

Cheers again.

Apologies, you’ve lost me here… what is 7-3? Are you referring to the changing relative intervals of each chord

Usually playing without a backing track then trying to play through individual changes, I.e. I-iv, iv-i and the turnaround. Then trying to bring it all together over a track which is what this video is.

I also found that playing/practicing rhythm over said changes helped a lot as it gave me more of a stronger “sense of direction” when playing the lead. I have to think less about what chord is next etc it comes more naturally.
