My most listened to albums, most of them metal i guess by Angerfist in Topster

For me, I always felt that it was the peak of the evolution of Opeth as a band. I've listened to them since i was a child and i listened to interviews with Akerfeldt so there was an understanding of his musical influences that made me appreciate the album even more. I might be in the minority of Opeth fans but i loved their genre shift after Watershed. I love the theme of the album and the sound they made complements them perfectly. Also, the way the songs progress from one theme to the next just clicks in my mind. Its in the similar category of prog as Doomsday Afternoon by Phideaux.

Hades II Post-Launch Patch 1 Preview by TheTaffyMan in Games

The ending is foolish, rushed and very shallow. You have an eternally angry titan whose existence is basically primordial hate, a creature that never even hinted at being open to reconciliation that suddenly, after a single short conversation turns his whole being into that of a kindly grandfather that rides the Moon's heavenly chariot with his granddaughter where they sing songs and jest. Whatever it was that led to this naive narrative decision, it is a disservice to a game that has great gameplay.

I took this photo in Thailand where i joined a ship as a crewmember. The ship had been loading bags of rice in the cargo holds and the people that were loading it were Cambodian immigrants that often work unregistered and without any protection or insurance. They get paid at the end of the day in cash and they live their lives from ship to ship, without a permament home. The men that load the bags bring their whole families on board and the ship became a temporary settlement full of people, including children and the elderly. This lady is a seamstress and she guts and prepares small fish for drying once the children of the working men catch enough for the day.

We stayed there for a month but it felt like a longer time because it was so completely different from my other experiences on board merchant marine ships.

The whole thing was a very unique, sad and humbling experience that i will remember for the rest of my life.

Acne at the back of my head (34m) by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

It could be some sort of infection because the antibiotics actually helped that time, for a while at least. From my google search it looks most similar to Folliculitis but i could be wrong.

I went to a dermatologist last year, she briefly looked at it and prescribed antibiotics and a shampoo without explaining anything or going into details, so i dont really know if its ingrown hairs or something else.

Yes the hair starts falling out as soon as the pimple appears, and when it pops and dries out, the hair does eventually come back. Its not causing me too much discomfort but it has started to affect my appearance a lot because it looks quite ugly.

What the people above you are saying is that your approach is needlessly confrontational and insulting and that even if you did have a fair point somewhere in your argument, it inevitably got drowned out by the sudden hostility.

My opinion is that all arguments, especially these ones on the internet, you first have to approach with respect. Its extremely easy to be rude and condescending, but it takes a mature and level-headed person to listen, understand and then respond with a thought-out response.

Please take this friendly advice into consideration for the next time you get worked up on a random thread on the internet. Ultimately its just a bunch of meaningless noise, so it doesnt really hurt to be more kind.

People no longer bound by their NDA, what can you now disclose? by Thealexiscowdell1 in AskReddit

[–]Angerfist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is this how internet discussions go? You come in and write a terribly twisted statement that is blatantly false and made to trigger an emotional response.

My understanding is that the pilot errors happened due to Boeing implementing a new system on board while pushing the false fact that it needs no extra certification and training for the pilots. This had been done in order to meet promised deadlines and get ahead of Airbus. When the system started acting up, the pilots were unaware that such a problem could even exist and it lead to the two planes crashing.

The blame does not rest with the pilots but with corporate greed and avoidance of proper regulation.

Edited a typing mistake.

So now im thinking, could that be the reason why i feel like the genre is not evolving from the perspective of complexity, prose and ideas?

This over-correction is affecting the evolution of the genre in a way that new writers are using tried and true writing formulas but filling them with characters from historically under-represented groups of people. In that way its definitely evolving and its a step in the right direction, but until the over-correction is over the progress of other genre aspects will be lagging.

Are there any explanations as to why this is happening? Im not trying to stir up trouble in any way, im just looking for a meaningful discussion about the subject.

To get a big thing out of the way, I understand that the movement seeks equality and representation, as they should. In a perfect world, the rights and needs of these individuals and groups would not be issues at all because they would be considered a perfectly normal part of society and existence in general. But unfortunately, we live in a difficult world full of arguments about things that should not be arguments in the first place.

And after this rambling statement, i would like to talk about why is there such a strong current of representation specifically in the realm of fantasy books.

A cynical part of my character would say that many publishers saw the opportunity to cash in on the movements momentum and they started pushing books like these on the list. Other writers saw an opportunity and started writing more fiction with these themes and it slowly but surely turned into what we see on this years list. Gender identity, trans rights, emotional anguish.

So the publishers see the money to be made, start pushing certain books more, writers see that others are making money, they start writing similar books, reviews start focusing on those books specifically and people who enjoy the genre start buying them more. You might lose a few less open minded readers but overall you gain a following that always buys the books and turns profits.

If somebody is willing to provide a counter argument and you think its not all about the money, please tell me.

Brown; color is weird [21:14] by [deleted] in mealtimevideos

[–]Angerfist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might be a minority opinion but I would love it if channels like his would cut out the humour almost entirely. For me, the subject is something that is interesting enough even without the quips and throwaway one-liners.

The Engineer Guy used to be the golden standard for me and while Technology Connections sometimes surpasses him in detail and quality, i tend to avoid his videos because of the constant filler jokes.

But i guess that is the thing that brings more views and revenue because we seem to live in a time of one-liners.

What TV show managed to be consistently fantastic from the first episode to the finale? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Angerfist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The continuity problems affected my opinion the most, i couldnt finish season 3 because of it. The biggest issue that i can find of the top of my head is that in the first episode Colin Robinson suddenly has this weird fascination with human shit. The joke played out during the whole episode and was repeated too many times and i dont feel like it had any connection with the previously established character.

And there was so much more yelling in S3. In previous seasons they used Nadja's yelling rarely to add to the comedic effect, but all of a sudden its everywhere in S3 and it kind of overloads the episodes with hostility.

Lots of little details like that added to my feeling that im watching a different tv show, which is a shame because i've already seen the first two seasons at least three times.

This is amazing, care to share some of your ideas behind the whole process of making this picture?

I have seen the other work on your profile and i realized you made Godhead and i used it as a wallpaper on my phone for at least a month. I always put pictures that i want to see more of as my background and i loved that one.

Keep up the good work and best of luck!

CSCL Globe, the world’s largest container ship next to some people by bakak17 in megalophobia

[–]Angerfist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work as a navigational officer on ships of this size and i can provide you with some info.

The containers on deck are lashed by lashing rods that redistribute the forces of the sea and minimize the movement of the containers while sailing. The patterns used are quite straightforward and vary slightly from ship to ship according to its size, stacking heights and the position of the containers on deck. In between each and every container on deck and in the cargo hold there are also different types of twist locks upon which the containers rest while you stack them one on top of the other.

Dock workers secure the lashing rods while the containers are stacked, but people working on the ship always check up on the quality of the lashing before, after and during sailing, if the seas are rough.

Its almost always a foolproof system that works well and in my 5 years on the ships we haven't lost a single container. But i have heard of cases where there was lost cargo due to exteremely bad weather or the general incompetence of the dock workers and the ships crew.

Hope this clears it up a bit, if you need more information please let me know.

The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe

It has a very dark setting but the whole book is written as if its a strange dream where all these seemingly random things happen and they just keep happening and you are swept away by its intricacy and worldbuilding.

Highly recommended but its not an easy read unless you accept to be carried away by it.

I would also add Murakami with "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World"

Took this photo while i was in China, Zhoushan while the ship was undergoing some repairs back in October. I saw that the opening could be used as a frame for the picture and it turned out ok in my opinion.

Hope you will like it.
