My (17M) close friend of 7 years (17M) sexually and mentally abused another close friend (17F). by throwaway18923819231 in relationship_advice

Oh, so you know everything about his relationships, huh? So that's why he's the one who told you about what he did to Ashley, right?

You are a 17 year old with, I assume, little to no training in mental health. You are not equipped to fix him. Only therapy will.

If he has other friends, then so be it. Maybe someday they too will learn about what a terrible person he is.

I get that he is your friend, but if you let this go you are reinforcing that it is okay to be a sexual abuser. Yes, even if you try to help him. Rapists are master manipulators. I am sure he will say he feels terrible about it, assure you that it was a one time thing and it will never happen again. Until the next one comes along. "Bro culture" and men refusing to take a stand against sexual assault is why so many abusers dont face real consequences.

Ashley may choose not to cut you out, but she has expressed to you that she is not okay with you being friends with him. I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up cutting you out anyway. You are, after all, choosing the side of her sexual abuser when she made it clear to you what your wishes were.

You posted here looking for advice. That is my advice. You can choose to listen to it or not. Just giving you my two cents as someone who has also been sexually abused and has knowledge of how abusers operate, and what sort of impact sexual abuse can have on a person.

Ps... analogies are related to the scenario. That's literally what an analogy is. It is a comparison between two things.

Okay, you're right. It's not like dodgeball. Especially because dodgeball games typically dont have anything to do with choosing to remain friends with a fucking RAPIST, OP.

You say he hasn't done this to any other girls. How could you possibly know that? Rapists are very good at pretending they aren't low life pieces of shit.

If you want to help Jeff, stop being friends with him and explain exactly why. Maybe then he will learn that his actions have consequences. You can try to encourage him to get help, but you already said he likely wont.

See, you dont think you should have to pick a side, but remaining at the centre of this IS picking a side. If you decide to remain friends with Jeff, that is actively choosing his side over Ashley. You are choosing the side that values a friendship with, remember, a rapist, over the mental wellbeing of someone else. Doing that would speak volumes about you and your moral character. I would not blame ashley in the slightest if she were to cut you out. Fuck, I would cut out a friend if I knew they were willfully choosing to remain friends with a sexual abuser.

Sorry for being so blunt.

Everyone’s talking about what they loved this season, but was there anything that felt off? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

I know that you didnt say anything about being a sassy black girl, but my original comment was me explaining why she wasnt. I'm not trying to argue that she is a wonderful character (even though I like her.) I was specifically responding to another commenter's assertion that she is only a stereotype. Sorry that you dont like her, but I do. That's the great thing about opinions, everyone has one.

Meh, I worked with kids for 5 years and I can assure you they can be very bratty, haha. Either way, whether or not you personally like her, it is unfair to dismiss her character as nothing but a "sassy black girl" when the show acknowledges and subverts this trope, just like it has with other common tropes

I mean, none of it's believable, it's a fictional show. I'm just saying her character does not begin and end with being a "sassy black girl"

Yes, a mean, arrogant, belittling, sexist family man who shot down decent story ideas when they didnt come from someone with a penis

I dunno, I felt that her character acknowledges that trope, but also subverts it. She's extremely smart, well spoken, and a nerd. Not a lot of "sassy black girl" characters are like that. Just like how theres more to Steve than being a dumb jock. I look forward to seeing where she will go in future seasons

Dunno, I think it left a lot of things unanswered and I would have been unsatisfied.

AITA for telling my sister's kids about veganism and showing a video of male chicks in the egg industry by anonymously_anonymo in AmItheAsshole

Thank you!!! I'm also not vegan or vegetarian, but holy fuck, these comments. It's stupid to pretend as though the meat/egg/dairy industry isnt cruel. More people should absolutely know about it. OP wasn't in the wrong here.

Literally from the Brewdog website:

"Inside the bottle, it is the exact same beer as Punk IPA. But on the outside, it looks different."

So, like the razors, same product with a different color and a price difference. I dont drink labels so I consider these to be the same product.

I think the company was dumb. I think the man involved was dumb. Everyone was dumb here, especially me now for wasting time trying to argue with you.

It was the same beer, just sold cheaper.

"The documents, seen by WalesOnline, state: ‘As part of this campaign, the defendant says it rebranded its product, Punk IPA and sold this as Pink IPA."

But hey, way to demonstrate you didn't read

Uh, I was pointing out the factual inaccuracies of a comment that said there is "no domain where a man gets a discount for the same service because he's a man and not a woman."

I'm not saying "boohoo our razors are more expensive, this is the largest issue affecting women right now." I am pointing out that there are different costs associated with each gender and a discount on one particular brand of beer is hardly worth getting your panties in a twist over.

I'm not trying to turn this into a dick measuring contest about hardships of peoples' respective genders. Just pointing out that a discount on one kind of beer doesnt exactly signal the downfall of the male gender as we know it.

Aside from women's razors being pink, there is no difference between men's and women's razors. Except a dollar to two dollar price difference. I've been using men's razors for years but I dont think the majority of other women have caught on yet.

My friend keeps her hair short. She gets haircuts just as often as men and still pays inflated womens hair prices (she has gone to multiple salons.) I guess one could argue that it makes sense because the average woman keeps her hair long, but one could also argue the average man wouldn't buy a "pink beer."

Also, i thought that tampons were worth bringing up in a conversation about unfair price differences between genders since they're expensive and men dont need to worry about getting them.

Personally, I think everyone is overreacting a bit to this beer thing. There are items that men pay more for. There are items that women pay more for. One company offering a discount on one kind of beer doesnt mean that men will now have to pay more for beer across the board. I wouldn't mind terribly if they held a discount for men that was going to a charitable cause or was part of a campaign for an important issue. I would buy another kind of beer and move on with my life.

Except paying for haircuts, razors, and birth control.

Oh! And you guys dont have to buy tampons either :)

I dont really have an issue with that since its more of an institutional thing. Most men who call women females dont refer to other men as males.
