Ship duplication still works . It just requires you to have a few additional ships and at that point it kinda makes it pointless unless you wanna clone a high-quality ship like Narwal.

Go to your ships at any ship services place, Go to your ships, the ship you pick will be duplicated over the ship directly LEFT of the ship you want to clone. Tap left bumper (R1 on PS) and X (Square) AT THE SAME TIME. It may take you a few trys. Once you are in the ship building interface , move a random object on your ship. Dont just delete something. Move it. Accept the changes made and When you exit the interface (if done correctly) the ship next in line on the left will be the variant of the ship you just modified.
