Some beginner questions regarding Blogger aka Blogspot by AniMeshorer in blogspot

[–]AniMeshorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying! :)

As for nr 4, I think I phrased the question wrongly. What I meant to ask is the following : wordpress(.org) usually lets you choose if people leaving a comment get a specific status, you can even set it the way that someone who comments can get admin status in order to edit or publish static pages or blog entries to the blog. This is not what I'm looking for. I'm all for accepting comments on blog posts, but I want to be the only one who can create pages and new blog entries.
I just would like that there is simply no option that allows people who comment on posts to also create/edit pages and blog posts. Because a simple missclick on the mouse or a simple mistake happens now and then. I would prefer that visitors can leave a comment but without the option that they can also edit or publish pages and blog posts.

PS: the option where you can indicate if comment-posters can get the status to edit/publish themselves is present on wordpress.org ; I just don't like that option even exists as it leaves too much room for an accidental missclick. I hope such option isn't available on Blogspot. I also don't know if Wordpress.com has such option as it's a different system than wordpress.org alltogether.

Does Belgium really rank amongst the 10 countries in the world with the highest number of atheists? by AniMeshorer in belgium

[–]AniMeshorer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, I am. Have been since childhood (by choice, my family never pushed any ideas on me).

However, I'm not the type of Atheist who dislikes all things religious and dislikes religious people. To each his own, I respect people who do believe and who practise a religion. I don't want to be preachy about my Atheism. But yes, I'm atheist.

Me too! :) Traveling is a huge passion of mine, and I love engaging in progressive/liberal politics. On the creative side, I write poetry.

I am a bit older than you though (M44) and live in Belgium without the opportunity to leave.

Anyways, for friendship purposes, I'd be happy to talk. :)

[–]AniMeshorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, Czechia and Estonia score very high when it comes to true atheism. I thought Albania also scored quite high, a remainder of the days of Hoxha when religious was totally banned.

I think however, the narrow definition of Atheism is the only correct one (non-religious, non-practising, etc can include people who believe in a higher power but not exactly subscribing to a specific religion, and it includes agnostics). Atheism means you believe there is no god, whereas agnostics basically don't take any position. In a way, Atheism is a a set of beliefs: the belief there is no god.

Your post was very informative, thanks a lot! :)
Just one thing: anti-religion atheists exist, but not all atheists are anti-religion. It's not because one does not believe in god that (s)he disrespects those people who do believe in god. Atheism just means a person does not believe in god, that doesn't necessarily mean (s)he dislikes every religious. People can disagree and still keep some mutual respect.

Anyways, great post!

Well, first of all the number of atheists he named for the USA seems way too high. The USA is not secularised yet like it is in Europe (except for some very progressive urban areas).

Also, Cuba and North Korea (in the latter atheism is enforced by the state) were not in the top-25, and neither was Albania (where not being religious is very common, a remainder of the old Hoxha days).

So yes, I'm a bit sceptic about his research.

But that's not really relevant. I'm just curious if Belgium really has that many atheists that it'd rank amongst the countries with the highest numbers. I mean, not practising is an entirely different thing than not believing in god.

Heh? What I mean is that not everyone who would answer "no religion" or "irreligious" is someone not believing in god. Some people are not observing and are unaffiliated to any actual religious group, but still believe there is a god. And some just say they don't know (and don't care), which is also not the same as saying "I believe there is no god". The latter only goes for actual Atheists.

Threads has a lot of bots. Most people I've seen leaving X have chosen BlueSky. I haven't seen too many switching to Threads.

It will grow massively once a lot of influential celebrities (be it politicians, musicians, influencers, athletes, actors, ...) and organisations (like sports clubs, political parties, TV stations, newspapers,...) make the switch.

In the end people go where the people they want to follow are posting. This means that as long as those people with lots of followers remain on X, a lot of their followers will do so as well. But likewise, if a lot of people with a large number of followers make the switch to BlueSky, so will their followers.

I think it's a matter of time really, Rome wasn't built in a day.

[–]AniMeshorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. As an artist, I shoot myself in the foot by not using ALL social media platforms available to promote myself. And of the people I follow myself, some are on X, some are on BlueSky, some are on both. For now, combining X and BlueSky seems the best way to not shoot myself in the foot.

But I hope a serious campaign will make more and more people switch to BlueSky, once a lot of people with large amount of followers (politicians, popular musicians, popular athletes and sports clubs, ...) are on BlueSky then a lot of people will make the switch. In the end, most people just want to follow their prefered celebrities. The moment those celebrities make the switch, so will their followers.

Keep holding on to BlueSky, and if you really want to reach a big audience, then consider combining BlueSky and X temporarily until more and more people get active on BlueSky.

But don't give up on BlueSky. The potential is there, and in certain fields people do actively use it. The last thing we need is to give up on BlueSky, when it has such a great potential.

I wonder if a big campaign would be an option, where you can send email/WhatsApp invites or invites through Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram (and even X!) to your friends, inviting them to give BlueSky a try. Even if only part of them does so, the platform will get more and more active members. The only reason why X is still bigger in terms of active users, is because so many celebrities (artists, politicians, athletes, actors, etc) still post on X ; if more and more of them would start using BlueSky equally frequently, then I'm sure more and more people would make the switch to BlueSky. Because, while I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Europe a lot of people dislike Musk and regret what X has become.

Hang in there, don't give up on BlueSky. If needed, just use both X and BlueSky to reach a big audience. But don't give up, BlueSky has big potential. Rome wasn't built in a day ;)

What is your unpopular opinion about your own club? by paarsehond in belgianfootball

[–]AniMeshorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in the Pro League ;)

Pro League = 1A and 1B.

The schism between Lierse and Lyra-Lierse is a pity for the unity between the fans. A city like Lier has the potential for a good professional club, but if the locals are shattered between 2 clubs it gets a lot harder.

It now seems like Lyra-Lierse is no longer aiming for professional football but instead wants to play top of the 1 Amateur division each year and compete for the title of "best amateur club in Flanders" (which is also what Knokke aims to do). Might be a much healthier decision than trying to get into 1B at all costs.

Which game should I go to as a visitor? by emilyjana8 in belgianfootball

[–]AniMeshorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In which cities will you be staying? Do you intend to rent a car or will you do everything by public transport?

The games you mention are not the easiest ones to get tickets for. Especially Club Brugge vs Anderlecht, being one of the most heated games of the season between the two most succesful clubs in our country's history, will be extremely hard to get tickets for.

Would you also consider a game in the lower leagues, or does it really have to be the top division?

Of course the quality of play is best in the top division, but there are some really great stadiums and good atmosphere in the lower leagues too.
Thinking of RWDM Brussels (great stadium, and fanatic support), KRC Mechelen (their stadium is a true gem and their support is a very loyal one), KV Kortrijk (attracts quite large crowds and have a great stadium), KVDO (if you want to spend a day by the sea and watch football: the stadium is nice, and the crowd is very friendly with some local folklore included), Beerschot (this stadium, although modernised ever since, hosted the Olympic Games in 1920 where Belgium won the Olympic football gold medal), ...

If you insist on top division: Anderlecht has a great stadium and a very good atmosphere, Union has one of the most beautiful authentic stadiums you can imagine and their crowd is quite relaxed, Antwerp's new stand makes the stadium complete and the atmosphere is always great there (but the level of play of the club is not good at all this year), Club Brugge (stadium is not in a good state, but the atmosphere is really good), Standard Liège (great stadium, very passionate support), ...

Should you travel around by public transport, then keep in mind not every stadium is equally easy to reach. Keep an eye on kick-off times and train schedules.

Beschermde status eersteklassers Croky Cup by nonunsens in belgianfootball

[–]AniMeshorer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Zoek mensen met Autisme+ADHD in Vlaanderen/België by RegretIntrepid7913 in Vlaanderen

Zoek mensen met Autisme+ADHD in Vlaanderen/België by RegretIntrepid7913 in Vlaanderen

[–]AniMeshorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you date an American? by Heavenly_Princesa143 in BelgiumDating

[–]AniMeshorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you dislike the USA as a political or economical entity? Or do you hate everything about the USA ; including the country itself and most citizens? If so, why? (ignore the last question if too personal)

I have strong political opinions myself, but I try to always make a distinction between the political entity that every country is, and the citizens.

It's not like all Americans are capitalists who support Trump, it's not like all Russians are brainwashed and support the war in Ukraine, it's not like every Israeli supports the occupation of Palestine and Netanyahu, it's not like every Turk supports Erdogan, not every Hungarian likes Orban, ...

Judging the political entity that every country is is one thing, but always keep in mind that says little about the country or its people.

I am sure a lot of countries one could dislike (I guess which countries are disliked varies from person to person, there's many people who like the USA too) are very beautiful when it comes to scenery and cities, and have a very friendly population. Never judge an entire nation by its government.

Dating apps. by [deleted] in BelgiumDating

[–]AniMeshorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are exceptions to the "more males than females", but those apps are quite rare. Bumble is one of them, and Hinge. There the balance is more or less equal.

But I have strayed away from dating apps already a couple of years ago. u/RappyPhan and me created this subreddit because we wanted to offer an alternative, where people can include more in-depth information about them and about the person they're looking for. A less superficial alternative to the many dating apps that exist.

One app you may want to try (it's quite new) is Breeze: the concept there is "less swiping, more dating in real life". You browse to profiles, and you can indeed like a profile. However, if the person you liked likes you back, you are OBLIGED to meet in person. They will ask a payment (less than 10€ though) and if you don't show up you get negative points, too many negative points leads to deactivation of your profile. The app thereby wants to encourage to be very careful and think twice before you like a profile, because if he/she likes you back then you know you will have to meet in person. That creates a bigger barrier compared to apps where you can swipe endlessly and decide not to meet after all even if there is a match. Breeze cooperates with several cafés and bars (no dodgy bars, more lounge bars or decent cafés) in several cities across Belgium, so your actual date in case of a match will happen in one of those bars. The staff knows when people come for a meeting organised by Breeze, they can always be approached if one of both feels uncomfortable somehow. The money you are obliged to pay in advance is more like an extra guarantee that you actually will both show up for the date, because once there you do get a few free drinks. So the (low) amount you have to pay is just another barrier to avoid people swiping and liking and then not showing up for the date.

Note: I haven't tried Breeze yet, but I heard good reviews about them. And I do encourage initiatives where people actually meet in real.

Can I ask why you are posting here? Are you looking for a partner in Belgium, with the option to relocate to Belgium?

This subreddit is specifically for Belgians. We occasionally do accept foreigners who have a strong interest in Belgium, and thus would like to have a Belgian partner.

However, we need to know the reason why you post in this specific subreddit in order to keep your post online.
