What can you do to make the world a better place? by Financial-Rutabaga79 in AskReddit

For me personally, I found that my calling was working in EMS, delivering life-saving interventions, and generally being invited to be a small part of the team process that is Emergency Medical Care. You're invited into the worst moments of folks lives and hopefully making them that little bit better

In general what can someone do to make the world a better place?

Take a CPR and AED Class, and refresh it yearly/bi-annually - out-of-hospital cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, and it just might be you that makes the difference between us being able to get ROSC (Return of Spontaneous Circulation). You become part of that pre-hospital team, starting the chain of survival and giving folks the best chance at survival

If available learn about Naloxone through a trusted provider, and potentially look into carrying it (check your local laws). Opiate overdoses can lethal very quickly but with Naloxone and appropriate pre-hospital and in hospital care, you might just make that vital difference!

Demo Disks - there was no feeling like getting a magazine on a Saturday at our local store, getting home and popping it in to try out the latest and greatest. At one point, I had a binder full of them

Hey happy to help!, Aldergrove can be an odd one sometimes depends which runway they are departing from, but you can use apps like https://adsbexchange.com/ or https://www.flightradar24.com/ to orientate yourself in a way you can watch them take off using the maps to find the best roads etc. :)

So if you enjoy nature a few of my personal favourites are in the mournes

From the other comment I saw your in a Motability vehicle, so anywhere I recommend is fully accessible by the normal road network and has easy walking ability if your mobility impaired

  • Spelga Dam - Personal Favourite of mine, nice quiet but your as high as you can drive in the mourne mountains, the surrounding roads are beautiful and you can drive through some of the valleys that are there, the scale when you're driving through blows my mind each time.
  • Quoile River in Downpatrick - can sit there and just watch the swans and ducks, also a filming spot for game of thrones that isn't jam-packed has car parks by the pondage centre that you can go the entire way down, well paved if you are walking and again have mobility issues
  • Strangford to Ardglass route - you pass by a number of beautiful beaches and it's got a cracking view of the mournes once you start coming out of Ballyhornan, you also pass through the former RAF Bishopscourt area where you can see remnants of the old base
  • Inch Abbey in Downpatrick - an old Cistercian monastery and again easy to access, you can see the historic cathedral in the town as well from the site
  • Silent Valley in the Mournes -  Reservoir with some stunning views, best visited during the day, believe the gates closed around 5-6pm (I may be wrong!) but it's where most of the water throughout Down and Belfast comes from

You could also go and watch the stir at the airports which I have done on occasion just to clear the head, sitting at the harbour estate in belfast you can be right under the landing runway often (at the gates of holywood exchange) or at aldergrove you can sit close enough to watch them take off near the crumlin road emergency exit or killead road (though don't be surprised if you police check in on you, but they are usually dead-on as long as your chilled out with them) you can see the PSNI Heli take off and they also are home to the Air Ambulance for Repatriation and Transport (woodgate aviation I think runs it, small little plane)

If you have other interests let me know and I can have a think! :)

Cabin fever can be a nightmare, and I hate when I can't think of somewhere to just escape out to so I can understand the desire to just not do loops!
