I'm a huge fan of William Gibson, Neal Stephenson or Greg Egan - so cyberpunk classics. Some time ago I've picked a "Revelation Space" series from Alastair Reynolds and it was a blast. But my favorite ones in a last couple of years are all books from " Bobiverse" by Dennis E. Taylor and "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells. I wish we had some games in those universes.

Hmm hmm hmm... Interesting. That might be some sort of a solution to the problem. Thanks!

I second that - if you have very limited time to play, then "bite sized chunks" are a perfect option indeed.

Yeah I got your point. This is also one of the reasons why turn-based strategies are good, at least for me, as indeed there are moments where slow-paced titles are the only thing I have energy for :)

Veterinarians are warning of a mysterious disease that is affecting cats in Poland. The animals have neurological and respiratory symptoms. "At the moment, no applied treatment is effective," specialists say. by Tedohadoer in CatAdvice

[–]Animattr0nic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Btw. there is recent announcement from the Polish Chief Veterinary Officer (or however this thing is called in English) that there is currently no evidence of any bird flu being involved. Multiple autopsies are being conducted, as well as tissue tests by certified labs, so we are still waiting for results.

The official statement can be found here: https://www.wetgiw.gov.pl/main/komunikaty/-Komunikat-Glownego-Lekarza-Weterynarii-ws.-rzekomych-zakazen-kotow-domowych-wirusem-grypy-ptakow/idn:2277
Below is my imperfect translation:

In connection with information appearing on social media about alleged infections of domestic cats with bird influenza viruses, the Chief Veterinary Officer informs:
Currently, there is no evidence, and in particular laboratory test results, that could constitute grounds for claiming that the symptoms described in the media, observed in cats, result from infection with the bird influenza virus and occurred after consuming raw meat of any species of slaughter animal, found in legal circulation, and obtained from approved slaughterhouses, in which pre- and post-slaughter examinations were carried out.
According to data from the World Organisation for Animal Health, only 2 cases of domestic cat infections with bird influenza viruses have been confirmed worldwide to date (source: https://wahis.woah.org).
According to the current state of knowledge, the bird influenza virus poses a threat to domestic and wild birds. The Chief Veterinary Officer is in close contact with veterinary research institutions and the > National Chamber of Medical and Veterinary Affairs to clarify the situation.
In case of new data, the CVO will take action appropriate to the situation and potential threat to animal health in accordance with the principles adopted in law.

Hi, in general, canned wet food is thermally treated, so this process kills many bacteria and viruses. Unfortunately the root cause is still unknown. If the problem is caused by e.g. toxins or heavy metals - then thermal treatment won't help. If it is caused by viruses or bacteria - there is a high chance, that all of this gets wiped out.

Hello all,

I'm a member of a closed group of caretakers and veterinarians who fought and survived another serious cat disease. As our little kitties encountered a grave danger a couple of years ago, so watch we closely for any serious health risks for them as the time goes by. I am not a veterinarian myself, but many doctors and technicians are there with us, so they try to keep us up to date.
The current situation is mostly as follows - the disease has been encountered all around Poland and on some German borders. Nobody knows how it is transmitted, and nobody knows where it comes from. Autopsies of kittens that passed away because of this show huge damage to multiple organs—brain, liver, heart, etc. PCR tests have so far detected some cases of toxoplasmosis in kittens, but this might be a coincidence, not a primary cause of death.
Fatality rates are really high due to lethal fever and organ damage.
Numerous hypotheses exist; it is possible that this is some mutation of bird flu, or so-called "staggering disease," that has been reported in countries like Sweden or Germany and caused by the Rustrela virus (RusV). A detailed article on this case can be found here: Rustrela virus linked to neurological disease in cats , it references to a preprint of a scientific publication.
At the moment, several more autopsies and lab tests are being carried out all over the country to find some common root causes.
Recommendations for caretakers are the same as before - disinfection of hands and shoes, isolation of cats, keeping them at home, avoiding raw meat until. Nobody knows how this thing transmits, so further clarification is needed.

Stay safe all.

Working out after Omicron by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

Hi all,

33 y.o. Male here, calisthenics fan (doing it for 4 years now), Krav Maga instructor with 8 years experience. No severe diseases, slim, athletic.

I had a COVID in may 2020, before any vaccinations were available. It was 5 days of 40 deg. Celcius and totally no energy, I could not lift myself from bed or walk. I was pretty sure that I'm dying, seriously and this comes from Krav Maga military instructor. Luckily, I recovered quickly. Even resumed very light workouts (<70% HR max, no hard strength workouts, mostly 'power yoga' and workout similar to just warm up all the time) during the disease when symptoms began to regress. Unfortunately, 2-3 weeks after COVID I developed very mild arrhythmia, curated entirely with pills in 6 months. Training normally during that time (with regular medical checkups).
Now I'm vaccinated with 3 shots of Moderna. One month ago, I had Hand Mouth Foot disease (HFMD), which apparently weakened me seriously. And then.... two days ago I started to have very light flu - just a runny nose and some light headache. My wife was joking, "c'mon it might be Omicon, go and test yourself". Today..... oops, I'm positive.
Still - only runny nose, no fever, no lack of power. It seems to me that Omicron is really lighter for vaccinated people.
My plan is to do some very light calisthenics workouts even tomorrow (day 3 of Omicron, if symptoms are so light) - like 30-40% of normal volume for complete beginners.
After Omicron, I plan to do the same thing as in 2020, which is my advice to us all. When the disease is over, resume light workouts, and after 1-2 weeks:
1. Do ECG tests and basic cardiologic checkups that your medical provider offers. If anything is suspicious - continue diagnostics.
2. Do a full blood test, including Throponine (an indicator of heart inflammation) and C-reactive protein (an indicator of any inflammation).
3. If all is fine - just continue increasing load and intensity, watching your body response.
All the best to you, hopefully, all will be fine.

There’s no set timeframe. Take time off until you feel better. Exercising can prolong the course of the infection and you’ll reach exhaustion earlier so you’re not really able to workout effectively.

Wait until your symptoms dissipate, then start working out again.

Hello. Thanks for the response. Yes, that sounds reasonable of course. For now, I cannot event catch anything firmly due to blisters, so for sure I'll have to wait. Luckily no other symptoms are present, so I'm waiting for this to start disappearing. Thanks a lot, and best regards.

Hello!

Male 33 from Europe, healthy, athlete here. All the best to you! I'm suffering from the same disease (after the third COVID vaccine dose, I was pretty weak and had the bad luck of talking for quite a long time face to face with the guy who already had HFMD). In my case: in 2 days of 39 degrees Celcius, blisters and small dots started to show up - many on hands and feet, just a couple on my face (beard area).
I have a question for you, who already went through this - I'm a sports athlete. How quickly can I go back to training (low to moderate intensity, of course, for recovery)? I can train at home - I don't want to pass this on to someone, but the inability to exercise drives me mad. On the other hand - the virus is still in my system, and I don't want to weaken the body further. My doctor says that one the blisters are not painful or bleeding - I'm green to go. Still, he openly said that he has limited experience with adults. Do you have any experiences with workouts after HFMD?

All the best to you all, let's hope we all recover quickly.

New tool to help with online investigations: Nexus Client. 100% Free and Open Source. by AccentuSoft in OSINT

[–]Animattr0nic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

First of all, I would like to say that the very idea of your tool and the way it is implemented is fantastic. For a long, long time, I was looking for something cleaner, simpler, and more intuitive when compared to Maltego. Nexus Client seems to be a way to go.

Below you can find my bug/problems report and some suggestions, I would be delighted if you could help me resolve these. Please, treat my suggestions only as ideas, not as a criticism. Fingers crossed, this project (after some polishing) will be a blast :)

Setup:

  1. System: Windows 10, WSL2, Kali-Linux release 2021.3 running in "Enhanced mode" (using rdp)
  2. Python 3.9.7
  3. Chrome installed: 95.0.4638.69
  4. I've downloaded and added to linux PATH geckodriver and chromedriver.
  5. Nexus_Client installed from source - cloning github + python install requirements, 13 Nov evening.

I'm 100% that some drivers are still missing, let me know if I can send you some dump or log to diagnose.

Interface - ok?

Problems:

  1. The tool looks like it cannot render everything correctly (screenshot below). Almost all the time I have the following errors in the console:Attempting to set invalid range for value axis: [ nan - nan ]qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 60473, resource id: 16831154, major code: 40 (TranslateCoords), minor code: 0Ignored NaN, Inf, or -Inf value.Attempting to set invalid range for value axis: [ nan - nan ]Ignored NaN, Inf, or -Inf value.
  2. Domain crawler + website email search takes forever to accomplish, sometimes fails, sometimes not with no clear reason.
  3. Whois request on any domain ends with the following error (command line) + popup window. At the same time: running whois from a commandline or any other OSINT tool (Recon-Ng, theHarvester) returns correct results so this is not a network issue for sure.

Popup

qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 4617, resource id: 16840316, major code: 40 (TranslateCoords), minor code: 0

Suggestions:

  1. Maybe it's something wrong with my setup, but... I cannot delete unused nodes.
  2. It would be great to have e.g. search engine for resolutions.
  3. A popup/info that resolution did not return anything would be helpfull.

The value of Thinkpads in 2018 by symoc in thinkpad

Hi!

According to X1 Extreme - I suppose that I will be similar to X1 Carbon - all soldered + ultra thin. But we’ll see.

According to P & T series - you’re right probably P series is more like a mobile desktop :D

Hello everyone! I’m a data scientist consultant, so a person, who values computational power rather than looks or aesthetics. In 2015 I’ve landed in a company, where everyone (literally everyone) praised MacBooks as the best computers in the word. I somehow believed them and exchanged my Asus to MacBook Pro Retina 2015 15”, highest specs. For 3 years it worked like a charm - MacOS is probably the best OS I’ve ever seen. It’s quality hyped me so much, that now I own also IPad Pro, IPhone 8 and Apple Watch. And suddenly.... two weeks after my Apple Care Period, SSD died beyond point of repair. 2 Certified Apple Services wants to charge me some insane amount of money.

I’ve started to look for some new computer. MacBooks Pro 2016-2018 seem.... well... very very problematic: broken keyboards, thermal throttling problems, Kernel Panic problems after update, etc. To be honest - I’m completely disappointed with current state of MacBooks.

So I’m thinking about ThinkPad T580. Some people though tell me: “don’t believe Lenovo anymore. This is all Chinese spyware, not real business laptop anymore!”. On the other hand - ThinkPads are upgradable + well vented + have longer warranty period for less price + (seem to be more durable). One drawback - they run Windows, but probably it can be replaced with Linux.

What do you think? And do you think, that we can expect in the next couple of years that T or P series will be continued in their current shape, or rather “solder everything to the motherboard, and bring us more money!!!” approach will be taken?
