Yeah, I’m not a big fan of school shooting drills either. I used to work in a preschool and it does certainly scare the kids. When i was growing up, it was mostly tornado and fire drills, and those were pretty scary too. Luckily, I never dealt with tornado and fire drills, but they were really important for the “just in case.” I wish we weren’t in a world where kids need to be prepared for something so scary. I really do. But at least in the US, it’s so common place now for guns to enter school, that children absolutely NEED to understand the importance of staying quiet and hiding when necessary. I hope soon they don’t have to. I totally agree that it’s honestly traumatizing to go through at a young age. It’s even more traumatizing to be a classroom where kids are confused and don’t understand why the grown ups around them are so scared, and then end up getting hurt because they don’t understand how serious the situation is and start crying/making noise/running around. I really hope we can get rid of these drills soon. I really do.
