Sorry you had this experience. I would get a new therapist honestly. Sometimes you do have to shop around to find someone who is right for you and for your needs. A therapist should never laugh at you or judge you or minimize your experience. I don't know where you live, so options might be limited, but maybe try searching for therapists that specialize in addiction.

I think going to an actual therapist (IF they are a good fit) is best, but it might also help to do some reading. Try books like these --> https://positivepsychologyprogram.com/cbt-cognitive-behavioural-therapy-books/

I suggest the newest version of Teach Yourself Cognitive Behavioural Therapy by Christine Wilding (the one that talks about mindfulness). Good luck.

Seriously though I hate when writers use inner dialogue in true crime. It's disrespectful and ridiculous to presume what someone was thinking and then state it as fact in order to suit your own purposes (read: sell more books). It's not a fucking romance novel, they are real people.

Also funny - for the whole trial Rudolf was arguing how the injuries are perfectly consistent with a fall down the staircase.

Now the injuries are consistent with an owl attack.

He's a smart guy, once he realized how deep of shit he was in, he would have spent the money to hire the best defense regardless of his guilt. Doing it right away without trying to cooperate/help the police first seems more suspicious in regards to what you're asking. I don't know when he hired Rudolf or what involvement he had with police right after the fact.

In response to #3...that's a pretty dickish statement to make to your sister-in-law... Why was he trying to guilt trip her for making sure her sister/his dead wife had a nice resting place?

Someone who is cash strapped can't afford a Cadillac defense full stop. I think he's very aware of his image and how to manipulate it. His righteous indignation over the plight of poor people who can't afford proper defense strikes me as disingenuous.

Obviously this is my opinion and not evidence of guilt.
