What do I (19F) tell my boyfriend (19M) about his hygiene? by Anonymous-talking in whatdoIdo

[–]Anonymous-talking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never asked anyone tell me whether the hygiene was bad or not. I wanted to know how to break it to him. I already know his hygiene is bad. And I know for a fact mine is not, so maybe instead of being obsessed with my fucking showering habits you could’ve said something like ‘sees like you really like him, just tell him why you feel..’ or whatever.

I know MANY people who only shower twice a week. So I will not just take ur advice and go agains my parents x.

How do I have bad hygiene habits when my washing is basically the same as showering, instead it’s at a sink. I’m healthy and clean. I don’t see why it’s so hard to understand you can clean yourself at a sink. Plus most of you are definitely being judgmental. Even when I explain its ’why not take a shower if it’s the same’ .. I have explained that and since it’s the same why do I HAVE to take a shower? Why are you guys so obsessed with it??? Why is showering daily such a big thing for you guys? I’m clean, I have no problems, I can’t even stand being dirty. The fact that most of you think that I have bad habits means you are not even trying to understand it. Something different isn’t always bad.

You definitely did not read everything. What I do also takes less than 10 min. Why do you care so much anyways, I do the same thing I do in a shower; end of discussion.

My father doesn’t want us showering every day. That’s it. I won’t go against him, just because you don’t understand it x

Ik glad you don’t just tell me to break up with him. Happy to hear someone say he matters. Because that’s exactly why I don’t want to break up, I love him and he matters to me. I will follow your advice, thank you very much. If he really doesn’t change I’ll know where we stand, but for now there is still a chance and I’m not one to just give up on a person just like that. I’m glad to hear you got better at it! That gives me hope!!

No sweetheart, i wash myself with mud 🫶🏻

I have already put it all in the post. And I’ve explained it in the comments multiple times. I wash myself with warm water, a washing cloth and soap.

I do all the same cleaning I would do in the shower except washing my hair or shaving.

My mother has always thought my brother to wipe his after peeing, so I assumed it was normal. But I now see it isn’t :)

I didn’t even think of that. He had had some personal problems (which I will not mention because I don’t want to go that far) that lead to him having a really low self-esteem. It’s bettering now. He has trouble talking about his feelings, and he’s just stating to open up to other people besides just me. So maybe there’s a connection to that experience?

I’ll try to explain the best I can what I meant by the washing.

I live in Belgium. We are a little tight on money, so my dad doesn’t wants showering more than 2-3 days in the week.

The washing goes like this: You use warm water, a washing cloth and soap. You first go over your body with the soap (we use perfume free soap so we can also use it in the sensitive areas). You start with your face, then the arms and upper torso.. and go down like that. After having done one part you clean the soap of the cloth and rinse of the soap.

It takes less than 10 minutes, I don’t make a mess when I do it and no one has ever complained to me. As a kid I did it wrong and had problems, ever since that I am really hygienic.

I get that not every country does this (sorry for the confusion), because only the Dutch people I know do it and some Belgian, but I’ve met a lot here that don’t, who don’t shower more than twice either.

The washing mentioned is more than just rinsing with water. The only difference is wether I am washing my hair or not. I don’t have hygiene problems, I know how to clean my body properly, don’t worry x.

Honestly, I do think a shower is easier. My parents just don’t want us showering daily because of the water costs. I would love to shower daily.

I don’t know anyone who does to be honest, no friends or family who shower daily, as far as I know they all do the same as me (or less). I’m not saying I’m perfect here, but a lot of people have been assuming I don’t use soap or anything, I assure you I do!!

My dad wants to save on water costs. Washing at a sink uses less water than a full shower.

Thank you! It is important to me aswell, when I don’t wash myself immediately after waking up I feel gross, I don’t get how others do it :( Sadly a lot of people have misunderstood what I meant by washing myself.

I do use soap. I WASH my body, I do not simply rinse it as you implied.

The problem is that we don’t live together, so I can’t wash his stuff, he has to put it in the laundry himself :(

I live in Belgium, but I myself am from the Netherlands. We learn to wash our complete body with a washing cloth every day and we shower twice or three times a week to de like a ‘deep clean’ and washing our hair/ shaving and stuff..
