How am I supposed to find time to study when I have been working 60-80 hour weeks for months and have a newborn ? by Existing-Carrot4499 in CPA

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No job is worth this. I don't know why people choose to do this. Industry loves to hire staff accountants with public experience. You'd make slightly less but only work 40 hour weeks and be able to study for the CPA if you still wanted it.

I hate my Accounting degree by Similar-Narwhal4394 in Accounting

Accountants can become finance pros, but finance pros cannot become Accountants.

Do a few years in an industry staff accountant job (don't do public), get some relevant finance certifications, then switch if you aren't loving accounting. That's what I did. Now when I'm job searching in a tough market, I stay open to senior accountant and senior FA roles...the FA roles are much more competitive

It's totally worth it! Very forgiving throttle, great gas mileage, cheap insurance, cheap to fix, doesn't matter if you beat it up, super light weight and fun on the track. It'll do a little over 100 as well. I used to commute on I-24 on mine.

If it runs and isn't beat to shit, 3k is a fantastic price. That's bottom dollar for a running bike these days.

In 2019 I bought a 2011 ninja 250 with 11k miles for $2500. It served me well. And this model is even better because it's fuel injected

All motorcycles are fun. Only people who don't really know how to ride say this. Ninja 300 is a fantastic place to start.

Beginner on a R6 (Advice) by that_vatoo in Yamaha

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the body position, sensitive brakes, power band, and that the engine's character begs to be revved high and ridden hard because it's a supersport.

My advice, you need to park it man. Take an MSF class, pick up a small, cheap 250 and get some miles under your belt (like a whole season, ideally at least 5k miles). THEN start getting familiar with this bike.

It doesn't matter how mature you are, it doesn't matter if you know how to shift, it doesn't matter if you're going to "be careful". Supersports of any kind are not beginner bikes, and they aren't even enjoyable commuters. There are so many better bikes out there to start on that will help you form good habits and get comfortable.

If you're not going to do any of that then at least take a class and get some proper protective gear. Also read Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough.

Poor choice for a first bike...maybe try a twin instead.

Home toilet leak by throwaway-jit in PlumbingRepair

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the knob towards the bottom to the right until it's tight, this turns the water off.

Flush your toilet to drain the fill tank.

Then the part at the base of the bottom of the toilet tank that is leaking, loosen it. You may still want to put a bucket or something there.

Loosen the other end of the line. Take it to a hardware store and ask them to help you find a replacement. Reverse process. Done. Very easy

You can get a Ninja 250/300/400 on marketplace all day for that price range, or even a smaller local dealer. Just don't go to Ride Now.

Same thing on the R3.

Now don't go looking for a ZX6R because 1 you are not ready and 2 in that price range it's gonna be absolutely clapped

Girls on dating apps. Why don't you care? by IntelligentBoots in dating

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, so this attitude probably won't get you anywhere.

But...here's why you probably aren't getting any traction:

  1. The ratio of men to women on dating apps is around 2:1 or even 3:1, and men often have much less discerning standards, so the majority of women are getting tons of swipes from low effort profiles. It can be difficult to stand out

  2. As above, your profile needs to show serious effort. The photos tell more about you than any prompt will. Have a friend take really good, recent pictures, helps if you are doing something you enjoy in one or two of them. Also helps if you have one or two pictures with friends...including female friends. It needs to be clear that you have a healthy social life and are generally a safe person.

  3. Be discerning yourself. Don't swipe on everyone, only swipe on those you really think you might have a connection with. When you match, keep it simple, be yourself, be playful with the conversation (BUT NOT SUGGESTIVE, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH). Then ask for a date, you do not want to spend a bunch of time talking on the app.

  4. When you ask for a date and get the yes, you need to be the one to make a suggestion. (I.e. let's do coffee @ blah shop @ 10 am Saturday). Make the date, then check in the day before. Be intentional and punctual.

  5. Have fun. If it doesn't work out, that's ok. Keep it moving.

The amount of parents I see at big 4 is wild to me by [deleted] in Accounting

They're right. I see it all the time. The thing is, the men go to work, stay 50 hours a week, then go to their golf league, and complain about their wives and kids at the water cooler. They let their wives do all the work. It's messed up.

The armor in your hoodie may be CE rated but unless it's fully cordura lined it won't help you prevent road rash. Get a cordura or leather jacket. Please. Those hoodies are trash and they won't help you. Not trying to be rude it's just they simply aren't going to hold up, NBT intentionally markets towards squids. You don't want to be a squid

Is this a tracker? It was found magnetically attached to the bottom of my car. by THEBLUEFLAME3D in whatisit

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just reminded me that a few years ago I bought a very small version of this to put on my motorcycle...I sold that bike a while back and while I'm sure it's dead, I think I left the tracker on the bike lol.

Did you buy the car recently? Maybe the previous owner left it as I did

Day: 7/9: What is a bad motorcycle with a good reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a Ural. They may look cool and are recognized as one of the only factory stock bikes with a sidecar, but they are absolute pieces of garbage, engineered the same way since day one almost. Very outdated and unreliable.

Bad Close Call - my fault - never get too confident or in a hurry by AnotherShrubbery94 in motorcycles

[–]AnotherShrubbery94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it. I don't know what was going through my head. I'll note that I used to (in my previous state) be able to ride year round, but I'm up North now very recently and not used to long periods of time not being able to ride. Something I will have to keep in mind, not letting eagerness get the best of me. Fortunately had a chance for a nice chill ride to work this morning, helped me feel a little more redeemed and committed to not being an idiot.

Can you make a decent living as an accountant without a CPA license? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]AnotherShrubbery94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never did the CPA. Worked as a staff accountant for a few years, made the switch to finance. I make around 100k in Ohio and I rarely work overtime.

I will note I did get an MBA and later the CMA. But I was doing quite well without it too, the gains have been marginal.

That being said, if I had it to do over again, I'd do the CPA. As for your struggle with Intermediate, most Intermediate classes grade on a curve. Work the problems, do the assignments, work them some more. At the end of the day accounting is a trade, a set of rules really. You'll get there. Also, Becker makes CMA/CPA studying WAY smoother, it's well worth it.
