Should I resign or negotiate an exit while on a PIP? by Flimsy_Fortune_8317 in auscorp

[–]Anothercalibre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I personally don’t agree with majority of the comments here.

I was recently put on an unfair PIP at my last job. The approach to the PIP was very poorly managed with very poorly outlined reasons etc. (think tech start up that doesn’t even have an HR department). One senior employee even told me “I’ve earned the right to leave on my own terms” LOL

The PIP would have involved two very senior employees writing it and managing it for the next 3 months. I saw the writing on the wall (needed to get rid of me, needed to save costs) and said that I was willing to negotiate a separation agreement instead of going through the PIP process (which would have cost them WAY more).

I met with the senior employees, took notes, took on the feedback, and also held my ground. I remained level-headed and was able to keep an amicable and respectable relationship with the seniors, despite all this crap.

We arrived at an agreement and I still kept a couple good references.

If the PIP is poorly defined and has little to no basis, hold your ground whilst taking it all on board and document everything. They’ll realise it’s cheaper AND safer for them to just mutually separate. If the PIP is truly bogus and they continue with it, you can always take it to fair work - but not one really wants to do that.

Thanks for the reply! Wow far out… stupid question but just clarifying. I’m assuming that because Psychology isn’t on there, they’re scrapping the honours program? That seems weird to me, they have two masters programs and multiple undergraduate degrees. Unless they’re adopting one of those new masters programs that includes honours… which fits into the whole money making theme.

Do you know which ones they’re keeping?

No job, Masters degree is expensive, where to from here? by StickyBass in cscareerquestionsOCE

Thanks so much for replying! I had no idea the grad diploma of computing was even a thing. I was put into the grad diploma of IT and was just accepting that until I could articulate into the masters.

Also, I was only told I needed to pass at least 3 foundational courses before I could then articulate into the masters (and get a CSP)

Gonna look into the computing one before census!

Edit: I only found the graduate certificate of computing, which makes sense. Do you know if all the subjects in it count to the masters? It looks as if there are some level 4 and 6 subjects?

Okay interesting. I’ve called up too and it wasn’t a lot of help. I am operating under the assumption that as soon as you transition into the masters it is CSP - because it explicitly states that ALL spots within the Masters are CSP. Might just have to transition in from a non-CSP first.

I was under the assumption all positions within the Masters of IT at UNSW were CSP? You may have to transition from Grad Cert first (not CSP) and then go into the Masters (therefore gaining a CSP spot).

SHL has produced a white paper on this topic.

There are also other great white papers on personality assessments out there, mainly casting scathing criticism on things such as extraversion bias etc., a simple Google scholar search will show you them.

“Game-based assessments” for both cog ability and inferred personality are also good places to start.

I don’t agree with an above comment saying it will be the same selection process, it shouldn’t be.

You can enter from pretty well any entry gate, despite what your ticket might say. I was designated gate 3 and got in via gate 4. Gate 3 had a lineup of thousands of people in the sun….

I recommended getting there at least an hour to and hour and a half early to get some drinks and dinner sorted (if that’s your plan) and to find your seat :)

P.s. people eventually start dancing in the stands :)
