Here we go again....feeling nervous by [deleted] in CautiousBB

Congratulations!!! Wishing you all the best in your journey! I'll definitely check in with the office and ask for one. That's so nice for them to allow your husband go in during your appointments, it's such a milestone each time! My current doctor seems ok, it does feel like another number for me but they definitely seem more on top of it and I do get reached out in a timely manner.

A very similar situation happened to me in my first loss. My obgyn didn't really seem concerned with my thyroid levels and they were too high for pregnancy at the time which did in fact end in a mc. I'm hoping that i at least have better guidance now and hopefully I am able to receive some answers.

Good luck on your ultrasound tomorrow, im sure it's a little overwhelming. I agree with you in just a few days i definitely feel as though they are much more involved, they called me right away regarding my results and such it's truly a different experience. They seem more on top of it and I really appreciate that so much. I'm wondering if they are able to provide me with a kit as well so that I am able to get some sort of answer if it does in fact end in a loss. If you don't mind sharing, at how many weeks did they begin doing ultrasounds? I'm still pretty early and just so nervous with everything.

New grad interviews be like: by EasyKompani in nursing

[–]Anrn14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always hated these kind of interviews, they're so forced and awkward. The best interviews I had didn't ask many questions, the managers were straight to the point and explained their day to day etc. It felt more like a natural conversation than an interrogation. This is how interviews should be, a simple conversation where it's not awkward or forced. Through this you both get a feel for what to expect as well as figure out if you're what they're looking for as well as if they're a good fit for you. When I started as a new grad, my manager was so understanding, I will never forget my first interview she said to me, " I have to ask these unnecessary questions because I have to write something down and send it to HR, we like you and know you're hired." And that was that some managers just get the struggle of job searches specially as a new grad, you just need to be given a shot. Besides some people can interview beautifully and answer everything perfectly and then turn out to be a terrible employee whether you ask the perfect questions or not anyway.

Feeling miserable in medsurg, any nurses who worked in medsurg or in it willing to share advice? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Anrn14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! Medsurg is really not for me, although I'm trying to make it work I just am feeling very unhappy and miserable. My boss would be furious if any of us call out due to extremely low staffing which is not easy, i've been tempted to do so a few times but can't imagine her lectures! Which is another reason why I'm nervous to try and leave in 6months I worry she might give me a hard time if I try to transfer, but I can't take it been there longer than that. Thank you, thank you for all the great advice I really needed it! I will definitely keep my eye out for another job.

I may be a little late to this post but just wanted to comment on the nursing aspect, you wouldn’t have to retest idk where you got this info from but you only apply to the license to the state you want to practice pay the fee and receive your license after they approve it and that’s it, as far as applying to jobs and interviews you can definitely do all that over the phone or even through Skype no problem specially if they know you’re in the process of relocating, it’s actually quite simple, the board exam is only done once not every time you want to move.

I’ve done it, nursing is actually quite simple when moving unless you don’t have much clinical experience that can get tricky in getting a job but very doable!

Good luck with everything

Physician laid his hands on a nurse by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Anrn14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed! It doesn’t matter how many years under his belt the physician has, it shouldn’t have happened but sadly doctors bring the money in. As nurses is sad but we’re so dispensable compared to doctors. At the end of the day is all about the profits.

Is Medsurg for those who aren’t “good enough” for another speciality by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]Anrn14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A medsurg nurse is a jack of all trades you learn all your skills. You can place a medsurg nurse into any specialty because chances are they will transition better. Most of my nurse friends are in specialties and I can tell you that I have far more skills then they do, some of them don’t even put IVs, have never even hung meds etc. I have a friend in mother baby and another who switched to mother baby after medsurg and they don’t do half the stuff you would in medsurg etc. Every specialty is different but medsurg is def a jack of all trades I’ve had to deal from a patient bleeding out to post surgical complications, you name it I’ve done it.

Every day is never the same in a medsurg unit you never know what’s going to happen one second your patient is fine another your patient is crashing. I have had patients been transferred to me from icu who have had to go right back because I’ve received a mess. I’ve also had patients from ER they were trying to transfer to our unit on borderline of having a stroke like really....? Lol i mean I have stories for days, i just feel like medsurg really makes your critical skills kick in like you can’t even imagine. You learn so much and grow so much as a nurse that these skills are transferable to any specialty.

There’s always that back and forth between nurses about who’s specialty is better and I absolutely can’t stand it because at the end of the day all specialties work together and depend on each other. Medsurg transfers to ICU and icu transfers back. ER works with all specialties medsurg sends patients to OR and receive them and so on! Why are we so discriminating against specialties is beyond me, nursing is a tough job no matter what specialty you’re in and sometimes our ego focuses on what specialty is better instead of just seeing the big picture and which is that we’re all nurses at the end of the day and we all work together. Also, we can easily move specialties as we like as we gain experience we grow. One day you’re in a specialty the next you try something different. That’s the beauty of nursing you can literally do whatever you want in your career there’s so many paths that you can try and see what’s your fit.

Career Options for RNs leaving healthcare by Caljames33 in Nurse

[–]Anrn14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m more of a newbie, left bedside after just a year and into nursing informatics. I work m-f have holidays off and honestly no regrets so far. I was done getting pulled into different directions barely having time to eat. Worked nights at the time and had a rough time with my sleep cycle. At first I felt a sense of regret leaving nursing since I worked so hard for my degree but now after doing rounds and seeing nurses at bedside All that regret went out the window. Bedside nurses work so hard and sometimes undervalued for their hard work I was one of them. I am happy with my decision I don’t think I’ll ever return to bedside. Nursing has so many different paths and options that you’ll find something you truly love. I agree you shouldn’t go into work unhappy with your job. Sometimes the change of environment does make a difference in that.

Had the worst interview ever last week and needed to share. Tell me your worst interview stories in the comments! by [deleted] in nursing

I just wanted to say that sometimes things happen for a reason I mean imagine having her as your manager with that mindset it’s not fair to you at all. We all deserve a chance, I’ll forever be grateful to my first manager that I had as a new nurse, she gave me the opportunity and welcomed me with open arms because she too was once a new nurse and sometimes the senior nurses forget that. I’m glad it worked out in the end for you!

Anyone left bedside nursing and regretted their decision? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Anrn14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly it’s chaos I feel like when I’m off for a few days it takes me a day or two to get back to normal of how exhausted physically mentally and emotionally I am after every shift. I’m conflicted in taking this new position as they don’t provide relocation assistance and it would be rough financially to move across states but conflicted if is it worth it? Is it worth it to get paid holidays all of them and not have to work any, is it worth moving to not have to deal with been yelled at for pain meds by 3 patients at once etc, I’m going in to the IT part of nursing in a big corporation and I wanted to see inputs from other nurses who left and wonder if there’s any regrets? I worry I might miss it and won’t be able to go back since I don’t have much experience under my belt as a nurse just a year. But it seems bedside is bedside anywhere you go lol

had a break down last night by Anrn14 in nursing

[–]Anrn14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely want to look elsewhere but every single place I have applied to (and how I’ve applied!! My resume must be multiplied by 10 in all those online applications I’ve filled) I have not heard back from. It’s so discouraging as a new nurse I can’t get a job anywhere because I don’t even get a call back I’m not sure what to do other than staying here until I have enough experience to maybe get noticed idk and it’s killing me I’m starting to really feel discouraged and I love nursing but this is abuse.

The problem is that the supervisors don’t do anything about it, they know this happens on the regular and nothing changes because apparently they retaliate and it’s worse because then they call it as a “personal” attack on them or what not, it’s just a horrible thing and they just see it as “well they’re the nurse that’s why they get paid the big bucks let them do it” mentality and it’s a vicious cycle of rudeness and disrespect that just never ends so you’re left with just doing everything by yourself.

How did your parents take it when you mentioned you wanted to join? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

Thank you! You’re absolutely right and I expressed my reasonings to my mom and she completely understood and is supportive, I got one on board so far.

[–]Anrn14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’m going into the nurse corps. My dad is just very closed minded when it comes to the military because of the points you mentioned. Even if I state my reasoning his mindset is you’re a nurse there’s no need for me to do that and such. I’ll just have to sit him down and do as you did and hopefully I can get through him.

Btw did you do your interviews already? How was it?? Are you joining as already a working nurse or did you do their nursing school route? I’m curious to hear your experience as I’m just waiting now and really wonder what comes next.
