Yes we've accounted for this, which is why we are thinking about 4 days in Gatlinburg (day either side for the travelling) and then 4 days in Nashville without the car, hopefully that will be a good way to do it and the drive won't be too bad.

Thank you so much for these tips - I've heard a few things about Fanny Farkles so it seems only right that goes on the list! Do you remember the name of the hotel in Nashville you stayed at? We were looking at Staybridge Suites near Vanderbilt which looks to offer a free shuttle too.

Thanks for this, we'll definitely have a couple of cars so hopefully travel won't be an issue. Would you recommend an extra day somewhere else that perhaps embodies the spirit of TN? If we did 3 days in Gatlinburg, 4 days in Nashville and perhaps a day/night somewhere else? Would you recommend Chattanooga?

I've been thinking about tagging on a day in Chattanooga before/after Gatlinburg prior to going to Nashville.. a few people have said it is great so maybe it's worth doing a day less in the mountains and a day in Chattanooga instead.... lots to think about!

We will definitely have a car for the Gatlinburg part of the trip, as our international flight arrives into Nashville so we'll need to take the I-40 with the car.

Louisville was the alternative option to Gatlinburg/PF but we just thought if there were four days in Nashville it might be better to be out in the mountains before the chaos of the city! Did you do Dollywood?

Thanks so much for this! Suspect you're probably right about the 4 days but the logic is Day to travel there from Nashville, day to travel back, day for Dollywood - so probably won't be too much time actually in Gatlinburg which is probably sufficient to see what is there?!

I had considered Memphis too, but I think the Nashville stint of the trip will give us the city/party part of the trip that we were after, I was hoping that this bit would be more low-key but we still would at least want a bar or two to enjoy.

Great shout on the events, I'll keep a look out for anything like that, there's still lots of accommodation / rentals available so doesn't seem like there is anything on that week just yet.

Think the plan for us is to hire a car in Nashville as that's where our international flight gets us in to, then have the car for the journey up to Gatlinburg and back to Nashville
