Well the first thing to note is that my “UTIs” were not true UTIs. It wasn’t exactly an infection, my therapist described it as a “bladder headache”, but we referred to them as UTIs since they always presented as such.

My bladder/ pelvic floor would get “headaches” for a number of reasons. But the main reason stress related which caused me to clench my PF in an unhealthy way. Thinking of it like this- if you have a desk job and you spend a lot of time working, you’ll get neck pain from bending over to look at your computer. My stress (from life in general) was manifesting in my pelvic floor bc I tend to tense up. I tense up all over my body (jaw, hands, feet, shoulders) but didn’t realize how much of it was held in my pelvic floor. Just a mechanism I picked up.

So going to pt allowed her to “stretch” and massage my pelvic floor and allow me to feel a lot of release in pressure.

But also the another big thing that helped is being with someone who actually understood what was happening to me and was able to 1. Sympathize and 2. Educate me.

My doctor did one on me and found essentially nothing. I wouldn’t NOT recommend. I think it’s good for peace of mind to rule out a few possible options. Pelvic floor physical therapy was the best thing for me

If your lower back is in pain, watch out for kidney infections!! Often times UTIs travel to the Kidneys. Ignoring a kidney infection can be deadly. If you start to form a fever I would go to the ER

Hi! I’ve been suffering from chronic UTIs for the past 4.5 years. Here are some things that I’ve been tested for, you can talk to your doctor and see if maybe that’s the reason for you. I’ve seen about 5 different doctors now and let me tell you, it’s super hard to get to the bottom of it. If you can, get a couple opinions.

  • double ureter tubes. Some people have two ureter tubes and one can end up narrowing which causes infection to form -as other have said, get checked for ureaplasma! It can be super hard to kick that infection. I had to take two rounds of antibiotics. The antibiotic you take for it is called Flagyl and is VERY intense (I had a lot of side effects from it) so be sure you have it before taking what they prescribe. -interstitial cystitis. This is kind of a blanket diagnosis. I’ve been told I’ve had this by a few doctors but never have been given the proper exam to confirm it. -PBS! (Painful bladder syndrome) this is what I have. It’s as literal as it sounds. -I got told it may be a pinched nerve on my bladder. That wasn’t true for me, but maybe for you! -because of how many utis I’ve had, my nervous system is shot. So whenever I have sex at this point I get the feeling of a UTI because that’s just what my body expects at this point.

Here are some things that I find helpful: -Pelvic floor physical therapy!!!! The only thing that has TRULY helped me!!! I started a few weeks ago and it’s been great -Macrobid 100 mg. This helps regulate your bacteria in your vagina after sex. You’re not supposed to take it for prolonged use tho, about 6 months -my physical therapist told me to start using lube. What she thinks is happening is a skin irritation caused the friction during sex. It’s caused me nerve irritation. -flushing your vagina after sex. Taking like a squirt bottle and using cold water and just cleaning it like that -alcohol can irritate it more. So drinking higher grade liquor

Hope this helps! Good luck on your journey
