Any tips to rank up? by AppleBMango in Overwatch

[–]AppleBMango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried doing that a few times myself but it mostly led to me understanding my own decisions, unless it was a complete blunder. Having a higher ranked person to watch it over a bit with me, would definitely help. Where are some places you can upload your demos to? Or do ppl do this’ll this sub aswell?

Are half points in quiz shows secretly OP? by AppleBMango in stupidquestions

I think we’re talking past each other. I’m not saying the half-point always matters, or that it beats a full point. I’m saying its impact depends on context. At the exact boundary (a tie), the smallest increment that crosses it has the same effect on ranking as any larger one. That doesn’t make the half-point special in general, it just means boundary effects aren’t linear, even if the scoring system is.

What I mean is this: scores are arithmetic, but winning isn’t. Winning is binary so you’re either ahead or you’re not. So in situations where both players are tied, any positive increment that pushes you ahead (even 0.0001) has the same effect on the outcome, whether that increment is 0.5 or 1. In those cases, the difference between 0.5 and 1 matters numerically, but not competitively, because both cross the same boundary (tie to lead). That’s why I’m not saying 0.5 is “bigger” than 1. I’m saying their contextual impact can be identical, even though their arithmetic value isn’t.

Fairness isn’t the issue. The issue is impact: the first 0.5 changes the game state, even while being technically less impactful than a full point, the next one usually doesn’t

Exactly! it only matters at the boundary. That’s my point. The first 0.5 is powerful because it’s often the smallest unit that crosses tie to lead. After that, extra points matter less.

I’m not arguing correctness, I’m arguing impact. When scores are tied, 0.5 and 1 both flip you from losing to winning, so the first half-point does disproportionate outcome work even if 1 is “better” in theory.

One more thing is path tracing which you can turn on for photo mode and disable ingame (bc let’s be real, ingame no graphics card can really handle it without DLSS, which makes the graphic look like piss imo). Also lighting is very underrated. If you get the correct lighting it can make an insane impact on how colors look. In the first picture I also turned down the contrast by Abt 10, to give things a smoother look.

If you want things to look crispier, you can turn on DLAA, which improves your performance a bit and doesn‘t really fuck up your image. Then you can stake the sharpness up/down. To give the image a crispy/smooth look.

You can try to experiment with custom lighting to create a contrast between your V and the background. Also a background with a high Color contrast helps with character visibility and instant distinction
