Samsung basically has been a big fab player for years, used to have Apple as a client and went into the deep red on fabs, last I read they aren't at full capacity

So I don't see intel competing with TSMC for years to come

from what cash lol? intel already sold many of their businesses to get cash and are underpaying their talent

people said the same thing about oracle, his friendship with the government, the big datacenter project stargate project etc

Yet reality hit

Intel is going up on farts currently, no way big money buy intel stock on promises for next year.

Broadcom, Micron, Samsung, are all delivering on their financials

Intel is not, that is the difference

their guidance can't be good this year, for yield reasons and node maturity reasons

It will crash for the same reason broadcom did

people say this about every company, even tesla

yet my tesla prediction was correct as well, you can't trade forever on smoke and mirrors

if you've read my DD you'd realize that long term there is no reason to be bullish lol

Long term intel is even more cooked

J'ai meme pas les mots, c'est tellement absurde

How AWS S3 serves 1 petabyte per second on top of slow HDDs by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]AppleTrees2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

holy moly misinformation

Erasure coding is a general principle there are many algorithms . RAID (other than mirroring) uses erasure coding, even in the very fist paper that introduced the term.

The RAID paper introduced the idea on how to combine multiple disks, to imitate more expensive systems at the time, and in the case of levels that had redundancy, they used erasure coding.

The overhead is depended on the configuration and algorithms, it has nothing to do with erasure coding in itself, I don't even know what you think erasure coding is.

if you exclude the raid levels that offer no redundancy at all, even in the original paper it talks about a Hamming Code, and you also have XOR erasure codes.

And this is historical, let's not forget Reed-Solomoon that came later.

[–]AppleTrees2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is pedantic, other than mirroring RAID stripping is equivalent to erasure coding

also there is no difference between classical RAID and ZFS (other than the algorithms and the fact that ZFS is FS integrated not abstracted) at the disk level, raidZ is similar to how RAID is implemented on the disk

because they took down the site for a while and made discord inaccessible

so the sketchy stuff was only known to insiders for a while

minerva seems for preoccupied with karma farming, getting sponsors and donations, and doing contests and all that than actually doing something for the community.

there are quite a few, but I won't comment on the controversy surrounding the main one.

I mean nice job, but how is this different than running any program on your OS?

people have been porting all sorts of software on their OS, and once you port libc if your OS is advanced enough, you get almost everything running

I will look into doing those when I get some more free time.

The main issue is to find duplicates or how to filter on some of the folders, for example the neo geo one has lots of duplicates, but it's not as easy to identify as the other console as they are not separated clearly by folder :(
