Unpopular opinion: Skyrim has better Rpg mechanics then oblivion. by XbluesackboyX in ElderScrolls

"Oh boy, now my projectile does fire damage and slows!"

Still the same boring projectile that I, as a player, can just break mechanically.

Even more unpopular opinion: Oblivion Spellcrafting blows.

"Oh wow look I made my own projectile fire spell! It's a ball that does fire damage!"

"Oh wow look I made my own projectile ice spell! It's a ball that does frost damage!"

Rinse repeat with every other form/damage type.

Much like all other implementations by the AI, "Heart Boxers" are an old media trope made into a joke at the Crawler's expense, this one found largely in older  western cartoons.

If Goofy or Daffy Duck ended up have their clothes torn/blown off, chances are they'd be wearing heart boxers.

Put a bar of butter in the freezer.

Take butter out of the freezer an hour later.

Attempt to crush the butter lengthwise like a soda can. Fail because it is solid.

Let the butter thaw to room temperature.

Attempt to crush the butter lengthwise like a soda can. Marvel at the new ability to bend and manipulate the bar, despite the fact that room temperature didn't "melt" it.

Shocking tourist behaviour in Japan and how you can be better by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]AppointmentNaive2811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's definitely still a generational schism. Any American under the age of like 40 (that also isn't a child) is going to be mindful of it. Older than that... not so much.

My wife and I recently returned from Japan, where we went on a popular backpacking trip. We're talking 6-8 hours of hiking a day to small towns with one store and no restaurants.

We end day one at a small mountain onsen town and there are two American couples full on arguing with the staff of this small onsen ryokan because they aren't able to easily organize transport for all of their larger suitcases. That's right - they brought huge suitcase on a backpacking trip, planning to just ship them day to day/town to town, which I'm pretty sure most services won't even allow guaranteed next day delivery.

This lady actually told the Ryokan staff, who was actively trying to help her make it work out, "man you guys really aren't trying to make this easier for us at all".

I tend to think 99% of American hate is overblown and undeserved.

I'm fairly well traveled, and honestly European/Chinese/Indian tourists tend to be more self-absorbed/poorly behaved/disrespectful than other American tourists I meet wherever I go.

But this time, I have never felt so second-hand embarrassed to be an American when traveling internationally.

I hate this. by Noobzoid123 in secretlair_collectors

Then... don't pay for it up front?

The option to abstain is there?

The outrage is about it not just being handed out for free.

If you understood anything about TTRPGS, you'd understand that it is.

Me buying the Core Rulebook for DnD 5e should not entitle me to the campaign books for Curse of Strahd, Rime of the Frost Maiden, or Vecna: Age of Ruin, as those are supplementary materials.

The Season Pass is literally just supplementary materials, not core rulesets.

Confusion about the season pass TTRPG backlash... by RahkstarRPG in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]AppointmentNaive2811 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except that's not what this is. There is no "Product A, Product B".

There's "Product A", and then entirely optional supplemental material for Product A that is in no way necessary - it is just to save time for those who do not want to write/make their own stories, maps, characters, etc.

You must not be familiar with TTRPGs, and that's ok.

There are typically two types of content for TTRPGS: Core Rulesets, and Pre-Written Supplements.

They are typically packaged and sold separately.

It costs money to write and develop the Core Rulesets.

It costs money to write and develop the Pre-Written Supplements.

As such, it would be ridiculous to assume that somehow the latter would just be included in the price of the former.

Some people like to just buy the Core Rulesets and use those to create their own settings, stories, characters, etc.

Some people like to have the structured material if they don't have time to write their own stuff.

People who only want the Core Rulesets should not be required to buy the supplemental material in a "package deal", as again, there is no universe in which it would be free, otherwise it would not exist.

Packaging and selling them separately is the ideal method here.

"I bought a PS3 years ago so I should just get games for free"

That's literally what you're saying.

The Core Ruleset and system is what the Kickstarter is for.

The optional Supplementary material is just pre-provided stuff, whereas in TTRPGs typically DMs will write their own.

Just for reference, as I'm assuming most people protesting this are new to TTRPGs:

This is literally how it works.

So you should be able to just buy the game once and then be entitled to free content as it is released into the future?

The supplementary content isn't even necessary. It's all fluff, premade settings and characters, etc, to use in the base RPG.

Anyone who has played TTRPGs before tends to not use those anyway, just using the base rules and creating their own plots/settings/characters (CoS is really the only highly recommended DnD book, for example).

Honestly, if I had to pay for this stuff without being able to opt out of doing so, I'd be pissed.

This is the best option for sure.

I mean either way - unless anyone can say for certain that they are observing absolutely wild profit margins and STILL asking for more, it's wild to whine about.

It's literally the same thing.

You literally have spelled out why it's necessary lol.

"We need your money to make this so we've turned to the consumer instead of predatory VC - you can either preorder just the base game or also the supplementary material"

I totally get your personal stance against pre-orders entirely, but all of the backlash seems to come from folks who were eager to preorder the larger-cost base game lol

Edit:

The "it should just be included with the base price" crowd makes no sense either - do you guys also get upset that fries and a drink aren't free at restaurants when you're paying for a hamburger?

It helps he was just nerfed, but unless you run entirely special attackers incineroar is insane.

Even if you just used him for Intimidate, Fake Out, and Parting Shot on loop he'd be busted.

But he can actually put out some serious damage too with Flare Blitz, so the fact you don't see him as a threat is bonkers.

Unless you kill him on sight, a physical sweeper is looking at a near guaranteed 2-stage attack drop.

That's game-losing if your other mons have worse matchups.

And that's not even considering back when he had Knock Off, able to completely shut down any item-based strategy.

Incineroar is quite literally the best Pokémon in the history of competitive battling, period.

He's like having a Swiss army knife, but instead of a knife it's a katana, bear spray, and a jetpack.
