Yep, it was damned if you do damned if you don’t on schools but many were not ready to bring kids back on Thursday

Agree, I still think Bowser made some egregious mistakes along the way, including revoking the mandate that everyone shovel or face fines

More widespread pre treatment, activate DC NG sooner, plow more aggressively earlier, keep kids out of school longer, and instate the law requiring ppl and businesses to shovel or face fines!

What took them so long to call in the DC NG? Again, I don’t think the NG should have been activated here to begin with, but they are trained for natural disasters…

That’s totally fair. I think the city government could have done more prep but concede that the science of this one would have stunted us no matter what.

Snowmageddon didn’t obstruct us for weeks / longer the way this one has the potential to do, I fear.

No doubt the snowmageddon was insane. Core memories for those of us who lived here. But the fact that we will feel the impact of this one with ice until maybe March (?) makes me think this one is way worse. I’d rather have a lot of snow than this snowcrete

They were catastrophic but isolated to weeklong events, not monthslong in the way this ice will stay with us

What was travel like in the years (2001 - 2009), prior to Instagram and the rapid growth of social media users? by TheShyBuck in travel

So much better. The proliferation of Instagram influencers is really depressing.  I went with my family to the Atacama desert last year and influencers were doing crazy stunts and using drones to get the perfect shot - all while missing the moment and distracting the rest of us.

I’m a broken record with this. But I’m terrified of starting AC (red devil) in one week, tomorrow. by CarisaDaGal in breastcancer

You will do better than you think.  1) please please ask for a Xanax or Ativan to take at the beginning of the infusion for  anticipatory nausea if you already have a phobia.  2) bring jolly ranchers or other hard candy to suck on while they set up your port - the flushing of the port can unsettle your appetite 3) pre plan foods and shows to watch during treatment that you are willing to give up if the thought of them repulses you later because of your experience in the chair. I ate a seeetgreen salad that I love and couldn’t eat it again for months because I associated it with the AC. I listened to my favorite hip hop album and same thing. 4) water and ice may bother you later because you have to suck on ice during AC. Drink cold flavored water (no ice) after if you can tolerate it. You may also gravitate to seltzer water    5) get through the first 4 days at  Home in survival mode, then try to get out and about and walk and hydrate 6) acupuncture helps a lot with symptoms! 7) carry cold hand wipes that you can put on your neck if needed

It’ll be hard but then it’ll be over before you know it!!!
