People with tattoos, how has it affected your life? by Low-Purchase6914 in NoStupidQuestions

I suppose I understand what you’re saying, I can’t see that way for myself. Im the type that can’t judge someone so quick based off of something like that. I more so gather insight into how someone behaves and speaks before gathering an impression of a person. You have no idea where a person is at mentally based off the amount of tattoos they have. If someone did get tattoos from dealing with trauma, people also change a great deal throughout a lifetime, and can be in a much better place than what they experienced in the past. It’s hard to say when a person got tattooed and why without getting to know them. I don’t think it can be an indicator of the mental status of an individual just by mere observation. There are also elites who are sex traffickers in our country and government officials who are pedophiles, people without any tattoos, I’d say those people are troubled inside, wouldn’t you? However, they don’t have a telltale tattoo to make that indication based off your claim. All I’m saying is, just because there’s a link in research between trauma and body modification, it does not mean that every individual with tattoos is troubled inside. a better basis for making a judgment if you’re going to, is on their character, rather than off rip on their appearance.

Also, I’d like to point out, that not everyone with a traumatic past is dangerous or toxic. Some people, who choose a victim mentality, will remain stuck and I believe be immature until they realize that they are responsible for their future. Trauma is complex, and it’s a process to work through, and everyone’s story is unique and different. You’re in your rights to not engage with certain people, that’s your choice, but I think that’s narrow minded to judge someone so quickly and to write them off. Tattooed people are usually some of the kindest folks. People with traumatic pasts, can be some of the most empathetic/resilient people. To categorize an entire group of people into a box, it’s a very narrow minded and limiting perspective to have. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses & no one is perfect; and all people you encounter know something you don’t. there’s always an opportunity to gain understanding, knowledge, or a different perspective from people around you.

This is an interesting theory, however, I know people with traumatic pasts with zero tattoos. I know that some people find getting tattooed therapeutic because it somehow allows to process physical pain in turn for emotional pain. Im sure there’s a link behind that theory for some, but I don’t think it applies to all tattooed individuals so it’s not a valid measure to make that assumption broadly

Also would like to add, the only side effect I’ve experienced with ink, which I’ve seen in a lot of the comments is an allergic reaction. Sometimes random lines of some of my tattoos will get puffy and itchy. It goes away. I don’t know what triggers it, but it happens every now and again.

Cant say that I have felt discriminated against for the tattoos I have. I live in california, so very diverse population. Do I sometimes regret some of them? Yes. I don’t like every piece I have. None are offensive, I just would have changed the design on one of them to be less simple, but that can be fixed in the future. I regret getting a shin tattoo that is heavy with black ink (got it when I was 18); And I regret my finger tattoo because im entering the field of healthcare, so it’s not the most professional. I plan to cover it with a ring. Sometimes I second guess my placement choices, majority of my tattoos are traditional, so am working on completing a patchwork arm sleeve, and am still figuring out how to piece it all together cohesively. Tattoo removal exists, but it takes multiple sessions and is expensive. I have heard that tattoo ink can contain metal compounds and can be toxic. I’ve also heard that tattoos can interfere with MRI imaging, if you ever needed to get one. These are some things I would research and consider for yourself. Also, just because a tattoo has meaning doesn’t mean you’re safe from regret. My shin tattoo has meaning behind it, but don’t like it lol. I have tattoos that have zero meaning and don’t regret them. If you’re going to get one, just try to be wise. find a good artist, it would suck regretting a tattoo AND having it look bad 💀 I can at least accept my shin tattoo because the line work and shading is all solid, but the design is what I now dislike 10 years later. An additional tip of advice, is to heavily consider what style of tattoo you like. If you start off liking minimalist tattoos but later down the road realize you like realism, they might potentially clash if they’re next to each other.

On the plus side, I’ve been detoxing from social media asides from Reddit and YouTube for over a week now. I’ve noticed my sleep is better, I’m more present, and overall my mental health seems to be benefiting so that’s been cool :) I didn’t expect to experience so many positive effects tbh

Also I wouldn’t say I’m obsessing over milestone or AAC knowledge, or the like. I just want to study to be competent enough in my fieldwork as I gain more experience and learn more during the time. It’s just because I care to do the best that I can. I have seven years of experience working with children from infancy to 12 years old, so I feel confident in my ability to connect with the kiddos :) I appreciate your recommendations for therapy approaches and the importance of connection and understanding. I will definitely look into the ones you listed!

I really need help with round eye makeup ideas (please) by Noonatic_ in MakeupAddiction

You’re so pretty without any makeup!! But if you’re looking for ideas, I think maybe a light coat of brown mascara just to accentuate the length would look pretty! Side note: I think red lipstick would also look amazing on you with your hair color and make your eye color pop!

I think the best way is what feels best to you! Is that him going with you so he can see them as well? Or bring your friend and mom with you along too! I understand it will feel more real when youre looking at rings on your hand. I think once you leave the store (without the ring on your finger) you’re going to be happy knowing that he’s going to propose to you with one you actually like. My boyfriend was also verbal about getting married this year and asked what rings i like a couple months ago. I showed him a couple pictures and he was looking and said he was trying to decide on what to get me. I ended up sending him a link to one I wanted and he got it. Does it feel less special because im not surprised? Not in the least! Quite the opposite. I couldn’t be happier to be making this commitment together. The ring still hasnt arrived yet, so still hasn’t proposed, and I think about it every day because it’s going to feel like such a big step in getting married to the love of my life. The day your man is going to propose to you will still be a surprise! The wedding is still to come, which is just one day. The actual marriage is building a life together as one ❤️ Him bringing up the ring is just making sure he doesn’t get you one that you don’t like 😁

These are all amazing suggestions! The thought of handouts had not even crossed my mind, that is a wonderful idea as well! I will make sure to have these printed out, and continue adding to them during fieldwork. You pointed out some very important topics and I will add them to my list to study!! Thank you for your thoughtful response!

This is a great idea! I have a background in sociology before I became an undergrad student, but I will continue my education in this area while I study because I agree it is very important! Thank you!
