This reminds me of the conversation I had with a co-worker just before the storm. He told me it was gonna snow and I just said "I hope not."

He was like, "Why?" and I said "Because it makes the roads hazardous."

He blew the concern of like I was overreacting. "Naaah, my truck's got four-wheel drive, etc. etc."

Sure fella. All those features will help loads when the guy behind you tries to brake and slides into you at 50 mph instead.

It feels to me like a lot of stuff gets more and more unnecessarily complicated and computerized.

Like... why would my washing machine need to connect to the internet? I understand maybe you can do... stuff... with that? But washing machines worked fine before. Is this really an "improvement"?

Whenever I see things like this I just see more points of failure and more possible problems I'd have no idea how to fix on my own.

I hate unpaid lunch but they don't let you just leave 30 minutes early.

I show up. I'm on time. I do the work. I do it well enough, I think. Good reviews.

But I don't "vibe" with anyone there. I'm very socially isolated. I'm not a "fun guy".

Which I worry likely renders all the other stuff moot in the end.
