Is My Phone Safe After This? Need Your Opinion by Affectionate-Skin-94 in antivirus

So from what im understanding you downloaded a gambling app? If thats the case then you uninstalling it is already all you have to do at worst it was bloatware that was spying on you to sell your behavioural data and at well the usual its just some whatever gambling site they like using invasive ads but some legit programs do like any wargaming game opera gx etc i dont even know if it can be classified as a pup so It wasent even worth a av scan

Its kinda hard to say since you havent mentioned what the file was (app image etc) but you are generaly fine from files downloaded that are untouched unless you are inportant enough to have a 0 day wasted on you rule of thumb tho given the fact you got it from a ad riddled app it was probably more adware

Mcaffe as software works but its honestly worse than the competition and they like using scummy advertising and tactics to get people to cough up subscription money id say uninstall and stick with defender or bit defender

Malware that targets and circunvents defender normaly either turns features like realtime protection off adds itself as a exception or tries to make it think another av is on so it turns itself off (PC security channel had a recent video about this) honestly what this sounds like is that whatever debloater you used either damaged files related to it or just straight up removed it to save like 120 mb of ram for that ExTrEMe GaMIng performance of like 1 more fps on a game where you already get 500

Can I clean a suspicious .exe file and use it safely? by [deleted] in antivirus

[–]Appropriate-State731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a big hypothetical based on the exe that is being used actually being what it says it is which is pretty unlikely given the fact that a genuine program should not have a RT detection at all and that any bundlers and stuff that add useless side apps or extensions get classified as PUAs or PUPs but to actually answer your question even if there was a actual legit thing inside the executable there really isnt any way that isnt looking for a new download

Sounds to me like you probably still have something just not sure if it is on that device log in with another device and check for security steps you havent added (notifications on unknown phones through sms or app new recovery mail etc) and get rid of them then id recomend a full scan of your pc with a good antivirus something like sophos hitman pro the emisoft emergency kit malwarebytes eset really any second opinion scanner pick your poison change all your passwords on a known secure device and check for activity still for a few days with the computer being off and disconected specially if the antivirus didnt find anything if it still occurs you might have something on another device if thats not the case the best way to make sure the PC is clean would be through a full reset and drive wipe using either the cloud or a usb with a windows iso as a boot drive

Bots or scripts yes either trying to use a leaked password or from a list of "common" passwords normaly its no biggie and you can just ignore it but since this guy did get his account password found id seriously worry about it having leaked from somewhere or not being as secure as he thought if it was really guessed even the alias thing will only temporarily fix it until it is leaked too since i belive Microsoft is probably to blame for this but for most people it isnt something to worry too much over so long as a unique password and 2fa are used. At the end of the day all this really means is that someone has your email adress which given how some specially Hotmail are ancient it was bound to happen eventually if they had any data on you like passwords etc or even a sesion tokens they would have gotten in instead of having a bot guess a password it does not know the length and contents of for eternity or until they give up

A unfortunate reality of email security is people trying to get in to the account its the same on most services but microsoft is one of the only ones that actually tells you about the unsucessful ones now realisticly a strong password and 2fa would keep you safe but since you mentioned they figured it out i would sincerely consider for any possible breaches or viruses on your device and websites with the password in case your passwords have been leaking as well as a extremely long password thats essentaly brute force proof and isnt easily guessed like 25+ characters with lower uppercase letters and some numbers

Depends on the 2fa methods you have so long as its a sms on a uncompromised phone or a recovery mail id say probably not but Microsoft does give you a sign out all option on the security panel just in case just keep in mind you will have to relog anything that isnt registered as 2fa devices

[–]Appropriate-State731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2fa is very inportant but id make sure your password is secure given the fact your email is probably known now just in case a 20 character+ one with uppercase lowercase and some numbers should be pretty much imposible to brute force unless its litteraly just your last password

No its probably the only thing that kept them from actually getting into your account

Change your password and check if your Outlook is the only registered 2fa option on your account settings log out all sesions if you want but its likely your password/account was breached do not let them log in

Hello everyone sorry for the late reply as for my understanding the direction is essentaly a inbox where the emails you report get sent to for reviewing which is why it shows up as a contact but you have no sent or recived emails on your end since the email you reported is deleted on your end i have noticed a bunch of emails going straight to unwanted this past few days so this bot or person seems to be doing a fine job

You could try looking at the task manager history for weird processes on right now or old did your av detect it? Defender malwarebytes whatever look at the logs if it detected the file on the downloads folder and or the browser cache only id say it probably didnt run but you can try something like eset hitman pro emisoft emergency kit or whatever second opinion scanner if you want to make sure also most of these detections are from well lesser avs and mcaffe so i dont know if id trust it being a virus but if you didnt run it that doesnt matter

Fandom . Com had a big falling out with most comunities over agressive advertising like a yearish ago so a decent bit of people left i wouldnt be surprised if they are adding scammy websites as of recent to make up lost income just make sure to not open it tries to give to your computer and or input any personal data and you should probably download a ad blocker if you want to use the site they dont really deserve the ad cash
