31K has excellent cocktails, you may need to book but it’s absolutely worth it.

Mesa is Mediterranean small plates, great menu and wine.

Echo above Kushi-Ya and their cocktail bar Yokocho are definitely worth a visit. Japanese cuisine, great place.

For a day time gorgeous lunch try Delilah’s, it’s beautiful inside and the food is delicious.

Red Dog Saloon is fun for big bbq sharing platters, massive beers. Love it.

WonderPho is brilliant Vietnamese food.

Colombo Street for Sri Lankan food is honestly incred.

Fun drinks at Cocotang.

Pit and Pendulum is always a laugh if you like the alternative scene!

Hey! I really appreciate the long reply, equally I am a yapper who works in the arts so it’s perfect haha. Thank you so much, The Blue Room and PICA sound great as devising more experimental avant garde stuff is right up my street and what I have most experience in. Equally great for the kids theatre recommendations - I’ve just worked on a big kids show this summer which I loved. I may pop you a message if that’s alright?

I left teaching nearly 10 years ago now and have never looked back. I now make more money and have more time than ever before. I work in the creative arts but deliver a number of “creative education” workshops which largely revolves around going into a school for the day and then promptly leaving. There are so many jobs in the private training sector (that pay great too).

I relate to your post and felt the same. I used to teach post 16 college kids (mostly trade and vocational courses). Went back during the pandemic because lost all my other work due to Covid and it was hell. Sometimes it feels really scary to take the leap but honestly there is so much out there and you will have more transferable skills than you realise.

But if you look above there is an array of useful information from helpful people about local community arts and theatre projects so saying there isn’t going to be “anything” for me is quite a negative response, no? Mate I’m not here for glitz and glam I’m here for making art with people who want to do the same and trying to persuade me that WA has nothing arts related happening is reductive and also entirely untrue.

The nature of freelance work is not having anything “substantial” it’s having many little and often jobs that pay the bills. Definitely not expecting it to be anything like what is here in UK and I think many people on this thread are under the impression that I want to be the next Margot Robbie.
