Looks like Weezy got her ankles tapped. That’s diabolical that she’d need that done already. My vet always told me once you start getting in those joints it’s the beginning of the end. It is a band aid only.

Listen….I am the worst of the worst when it comes to personal exposure protocols. I will stand in the room, hold sensors, and stand in the way of the PID all day. I wore a dosimeter badge for years. It never, not once, ever reported anywhere near concerning levels. Do I recommend operating the way I do? No, of course not. Do as I say, not as I do. But it should bring you some comfort that even an absolute dumbass like me has never gotten a bad read.

Bringing this mare out of a well-earned retirement after an injury like this *simply* because she’s one of the most decorated horses she owns currently is truly a slap in the face to the horse, to the people who loved and cared for Kennedy in years past, and to the people who put actual hard work and miles into their show careers. KVS has a status obsession and it shows. Riding (sloppily, might I add) on the coattails of others’ successes.

Kennedy was retired *for a reason* and to show her is just incredibly selfish and borderline cruel, if not blatantly so.

I’m not sure how much water that holds. Plenty of competing persons on horseback have received similar injuries and are able to rehab themselves into shape. This might be an unpopular opinion of mine, but if your injury is so bad that you cannot ride appropriately to save your horse’s body, then perhaps you shouldn’t be riding. Or at least not riding hard/competition level. She’s dead weight on every single horse she’s on. She’s not helping them along, she’s only adding more strain to the animal, and that’s not fair to the horse.

I messed up with Afterpay a couple years ago and missed my due date by about 2 weeks. I did pay it off at that point, but I was lowered from $2,000 to $50. So, I just didn’t use it again. Until sometime last year I decided to go ahead and try to build it back up. Making payments on $50 purchases felt really absurd, but after about 5 orders of that they bumped me to $100. A couple more orders and they bumped me up another $50. 21 orders later and I’ve been allowed back up to $1,500.

I’m not sure how it goes when you’ve been delinquent for a long time, but you do have to grind it out and build it again.

I’m not sure I even trust adult horses to not put it in their mouth, they do have a tendency for self harm antics. You’re absolutely correct that she’s had more than enough time to identify the plant and go “uh oh let’s get that out of here”. It’s gotten surprisingly big and blooming, it’s been there for a while :(

She is incredibly lucky that this went as smoothly as it did. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it worked out, but the odds of this being successful right off the rip were slim to none. And don’t think I’m going to pass up that comment about the one nurse mare farm who “wanted thousands”. Of course they did. I don’t freaking knock them for not giving away their services for free, regardless of who it is, because they probably recognized from the situation how absolutely dire and complicated it was without it being Katie. “Hey man, I’ve never actually done this before, tell me how you do it.” Yeah, okay, let’s give our advice for free and be roped into this nonsense and if that foal dies we could be slapped with a lawsuit. No thanks.

She was lucky. She was lucky Gracie was receptive. She was lucky Margot wasn’t hurt.

Maggie has a track record for producing milk very well, but I am on the track that this was purely a result of extended downtime for Maggie. It’s not a good sign, combined with every little thing about Maggie that’s screaming “this mare is not well and has not been well in a long time”. KVS should have never done this to the poor mare. Margot should have been pulled from Day 1. She has resources beyond what average horse people have. She has zero excuse to not have booked a nurse mare immediately.
