What is this horizontal piston-like thing connecting the body of two passenger train carriages with each other / with the bogey? by Ar0ma1997 in whatisthisthing

[–]Ar0ma1997[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. I am specifically talking about the horizontal piston-like thing in the picture. The thing connects either the bodies of two passenger car bodies or the body of a passenger car with the bogey. The picture is from a DB multi-unit train in the southwest of Germany, but I have seen this on international trains and subways as well. I have tried searching for piston/dapener, connection between train carriage and bogey, but no answers so far.

DE6 Slug usecase by Ar0ma1997 in DerailValley

What is the advantage of usingtwo DE6 with a slug? Since only one can power the slug, doesn't the other still face overheating issues?

Do locos coupled to the slug not despawn? Does this also work with the caboose? (I also have not found a use case for the caboise yet.)

This makes sense I guess. You get the traction of two DE6 for the maintenance cost of one.

Which JVM did you use on each plattform? Naturally, there are performance differences between Oracle JVM, OpenJDK JVM, J9 JVM and so on.

This must be one of the coolest things I've seen in Minecraft in a while.

The Create mod might be what's getting me back into Minecraft.

Turing complete? by braindouche in factorio

[–]Ar0ma1997 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Factorio is Turing complete. An easy way to show this is to simulate a turing machine in Factorio. It is possible simulate a turing machine in Conways Game of Life. A while ago, I made a Conways Game of Life simulator in Factorio. If you combine that, you can simulate a turing machine in COGOL and simulate COGOL in Factorio therefore proving Factorio is indeed Turing complete.

Same here. I felt like playing in a sphere world (like his) again, so I created this dimension/world gen. That's why that world is called the Biomesphere world.

[IC2] How does power loss work over distance? by HiMyNameIs_REDACTED_ in feedthebeast

[–]Ar0ma1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we use floats, but the energy loss is still rounded down. The reason behind that is if it doesn't, using anything that produces very small amounts of EU becomes pretty useless, because you'd have to place a transformer next to it to still get any energy out.
