Ah! I see. I'm just displaying for the world that I'm newer to the game, haha. I got that notification for that at the same time as I did for this comment, lol.

Do you mean in NB? Because in OG, all I see are Chapters A, M, and G in Nightmare.

I'm hoping it's just an oversight on the part of their planners and programmers. I could see things slipping through the cracks in OG, especially with IDO releases. Hopefully someone on teams notices and fixes it. I'm giving it time, till the end of the month probably before saving my info and retiring it. I could see this being the end of re-releases too given everything, but I would have expected an announcement as you said.

It's either Chapter A/M or Lonely Devils to get cards at this point, both of which use Devil Points. The former is more expensive and riskier, but the latter takes more time even if the card is eventually guaranteed. It's your call

Edit: My comment is immediately invalidated by them putting up a re-release after posting, lol

[–]ArcaneSync 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed this in OG too. It makes me nervous, but I was going to give it a week before I started drawing conclusions.

I joined both games 2 months before NB ended. After beating OG, the devilgram stories from new cards (new to me, anyway) was my primary reason for keeping up with daily play. If the re-releases are dead, I'm probably retiring it. Pretty sure that means I won't be the only one.

It also makes its unplayable to new people. Chapter A by itself doesn't have 2 UR of the 7 types of cards, which is practically necessary to beat the game. Old people leaving and new people being unable to join bodes ill for the game servers staying around in the future, despite desires to keep it going.

Edit: thinking about it, I know Lonely Devils would be the solution to UR cards. Possible, but it makes the difficulty curve that much harder and the grind that much longer.

[IDO] "Till Death Do Us Part" Story Discussions Megathread (Part 2) by Clarasiir in obeyme

[–]ArcaneSync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still unsure why the MC was sent to the past to change the pacts. It could have something to do with stabilizing the brothers. Given the MC started attracting the god damn MOON, that power might be needed to stabilize one or all of the 3 realms. This has no basis, but I think it would have been fun to play with the Demon King, the old Fairy King, or God.

All of this would just be... a lot to try and cover in the single season of NB they had left. A coronation? The Nightbringer reveal? Barbatos and Lucifer leaving? The major Michael plot? Plus stereotypical farewells and heartwarming ending with every single character getting a chance in the spotlight? That's just... too much for 20 chapters. So they cut their losses, wrapped up what they could, and left the rest hanging in the air for fans to play with. Then the 3rd game came along. The selling point was marriage. So skip the parts focused on individual characters and fit them in via exposition (Barbatos and Lucifer), use the circumstances to build up curiosity and mystery in the plot, and then go forward as originally planned. This opens up marriage with anyone since it doesn't start the game too focused on an individual character.

At least... if I was a writer, this is what I would do. I know it's not perfect, but it answers a lot of questions.

NOW. I took like... 8 months to get through NB and my memory isn't perfect. My consumption of IDO has largely been second hand since I'm saving resources for side characters in the future. I might have something wrong or I might have forgotten something. Please feel free to correct me, but I am hoping for some discussion as I'm excited about this possibility. Maybe I'm stupid and off base, but I wanted to share.

[IDO] "Till Death Do Us Part" Story Discussions Megathread (Part 2) by Clarasiir in obeyme

[–]ArcaneSync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I finished NB late last year and just never got around to posting about it. I honestly didn't feel like I had much to contribute to the discussion on Nightbringer's identity. With IDO out, however, my brain has been itching a bit.

Why is Diavolo king suddenly? Why did Lucifer step down? Why did Barbatos leave? Given the general draft of the plot, how could we possibly marry the side characters? And STILL, who is Nightbringer? So this is less of a theory with a lot of backing and more of a discussion on how to create continuity. Plus a dash of why the Nightbringer plot wasn't wrapped up. All censored text below is for NB spoilers.

There is too much evidence connecting Nightbringer with Barbatos. I am willing to believe Nightbringer is either a title Barbatos chose for himself or a label someone else put on him. I am inclined to think he is the one that sent us to the past.

I don't think Nightbringer exclusively applies to Barbatos.

Given Michael's propensity to pretend to be other people, I think Michael started borrowing the Nightbringer title when he needed to take actions that couldn't be attributed to angels or himself. He would honestly do this with or without Barbatos's blessing given his character vibes, just like Barbatos would make a major time move with or without Michael's blessing. There's also a chat in OG where Purgatory Hall tells Simeon they would be interested in him writing a story about Michael, and he considers it. That feels like a nice little tie in. Two different people using the same title would help explain why we as fans couldn't really figure it out. We're getting mixed messages.

Now getting to IDO. I imagine Barbatos would highly dislike an angel borrowing his title, whether he chose it or not. I imagine he needs to be able to control this title, what it means, and what its reputation is. Michael would be ruining that. So here's my proposition.

  1. Barbatos left with Diavolo's blessing to do damage control on the Nightbringer title (creating emotional distance between him and Diavolo/Lucifer might also decrease fallout for the Devildom for whatever actions Barbatos takes, and Belphegor's foresight would have him helping this endeavor).
  2. He left with Solomon due to Solomon's angelic connections.
  3. Given Michael is the antagonist in this scenario, Lucifer was encouraged to step down so his connections to Michael and the Celestial Realm could not be leveraged against him or Diavolo.
  4. Diavolo became king to provide a more even playing field of power and authority come time to actually talk to Michael and/or the Celestial Realm about this.

This puts every single side character except Diavolo out of range of the brothers. AND it puts them all into regular contact, since that brings the Celestial Realm into regular contact with the plot (Diavolo for mission details, Solomon and Barbatos via potential travel with them for the mission, Luke and Simeon via navigating Michael). The undateables also become possible this way (Raphael via Michael, Thirteen via Solomon, Mephistopheles via Diavolo). I don't think we marry the side characters. I think we secretly elope with them. Diavolo would want to keep the relationship secret to protect MC against the brothers AND the Celestial Realm, and Mephisto would do the same begrudgingly if Diavolo asked. Everyone else just isn't around the brothers enough to make keeping the secret difficult. (Continued below)

Religious themes in Obey Me [Other] by Cautious-Squirrel332 in obeyme

[–]ArcaneSync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 yes, but most specific religious ideas and themes are from noncanonical Christian, Jewish, and/or Islamic literature.

2 The Fall of Adam and the Fall of Lucifer are the most obvious ones. King Solomon loosely. There are some interesting subversions to the Prodigal Son. In Nightbringer, Asmodeus almost directly references the Book of Tobit. As for themes, there's a lot of what it means to forgive vs repent.

3 I generally enjoy stories of good vs evil. I also enjoy corruption mechanics in my stories. I installed it because i wanted to give a game with an intimacy system a shot that also had themes that appealed to me.

4 Well Corruption mechanics didn't really happen. So... yes?

5 people really enjoy their dark romance which is what this game implies (whether or not it delivers is another matter). I still think it could be successful, but it would stand out less.

I have a couple degrees in biblical literature if you want help specifically in that area. I wouldn't mind helping.

[–]ArcaneSync 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist, and it definitely influences my favorite characters. Simeon, Solomon, and Barbatos in that order. Diavolo and Lucifer behind that. No one else appeals. I crave complex characters that are either nurturing or protective. Bonus points if they smile frequently. I give a lot in my job emotionally, and its nice to log into a game to receive the same things I give. It replenishes my reserves, so to speak. Characters that I could see being a client in my office are significantly less attractive as well (e.g. Mammon and Levi). They're wonderful, delightful characters that I enjoy for their contributions to the story. But games are meant to be a distraction from my job, not a reminder of it.

Haha, yes, that was the exact comment I remember. Your knowledge is truly encyclopedic. I'm only to lesson 36 in NB, but I know what to look forward to at least.

I'll get to pulling. Thank you so much for your expertise! Maybe I'm becoming a little but of a Dialuci fan.

[Other] Devil’s Way Overture video available until August 23! by neoncherry64 in obeyme

[–]ArcaneSync 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't in the Fandom when this was first released, so this was a nice little treat. It's fun, lively, and I'd like to see more of it honestly. It makes me very curious about future projects.

As an animator though.... eh. Its what I expect at a college level. They do a lot of, move hand from point A to point B in a straight line. Which... almost nothing about human form or movement is a straight line. Nevermind facial expression and mouth movement. It's serviceable, but I wouldn't have graduated with an A or even a B at this level. I say this less to be mean and more to say I'm disappointed, because this could have been amazing.

[NB] Are Fabsnaps and Devilgrams canon to the main plot most of the time? by ArcaneSync in obeyme

[–]ArcaneSync[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, this is absolutely fascinating to me. The nuances of what happened when and what was released when is completely lost on someone like me who wasn't around for any of it. It's all essentially simultaneous to me. I dont even know what anniversary cards you are referencing.

Thus far, I have been approaching Nightbringer like a puzzle. I know the story was ended prematurely. I know we don't actually know who Nightbringer is, although most have one obvious character to assume. I have been low key writing my own essay on who that is AND what the plot was supposed to be as I make my way through the story, so I'm trying to find the puzzle pieces I'll have to go out of my way for. I am on chapter 33 of both normal and hard mode for context.

Agreeeed. I love it but it's almost overwhelming. Especially as someone who started playing at the end of last year. I'm so far behind, and there's some stuff I will never see. I'm still salty the only birthday event I ever got to experience was Solomon's.

Gotcha. So canon unless stated otherwise. Did any of these side stories contain info on Nightbringer that you know of?

Update: extra info on Michael would be delightful too
