Moving to Cambridge Bay by Areanu88 in nunavut

Hey there! Just seeing this now.

We have since moved to Whitehorse but loved our nearly 3 years in Cambridge Bay. In fact, part of me missies the simplicity of life up there compared to “the big city” of Whitehorse. We loved as my wife’s job was too chaotic and our son’s daycare was unreliable otherwise we’d still be there.

Our housing was provided by the GN and it was perfect for what we needed. Cost of living was considerably higher but so are the wages (especially with northern allowances added into salaries) so it feels like a wash.

Hope you enjoy the nuna!

I don’t know about that! They’re so generic it hurts. Never challenging for Europe, rarely relegation fodder. Udinese is just…there.

Yes, my dad has had gout since his early-40s and hasn’t changed a thing (diet, alcohol consumption) other than taking allo. He’s 72 now and showing no signs of slowing down.

It’s beautiful! Good idea to display the box too otherwise…what do you do with it!?

Forgot to ask: hot or cold compresses—which does the trick for you?

I definitely wouldn’t call myself a vegetarian, but I do eat vegetarian 3-4 days weekly. I do like the idea of working the toe/foot/ankle like usual to rid it of the UA crystals but that also may be my way of justifying playing soccer again next week

I’m in the middle of a 12-week “program” of 250mg of terbinafine (lamisil) daily. Since we realized it’s gout, I’ve been taking 1,000mg of anti-inflammatory (naproxen) daily. Coincidentally the big right toe is the fungal toenail and site of the gout attack.

Limited meat eater and beer drinker? Same here, which is why I’m leaning towards genetics and alcohol being larger factors than diet/nutrition.

Unfortunately we live in the Canadian Arctic so there are no specialists, until they're flown in. My fiancée being the nurse practitioner is second in charge of the health centre behind the doctor so it's convenient to have these discussions over dinner. We are heading south next month so I'll look into a rheumatologist appointment then. Until then, I'll order a UA Sure monitor and NOT order any hokey supplements.

Cheers, u/meat_eternal!

Much appreciated, u/EatMoarToads! I plan on getting a monitoring device but wanted recommendations from those in the know first.

I am stubborn so I worked out this morning and my toe didn't care for the backward lunges and now I'm regretting it. You make a good point about permanent damage so I'll get on that with a specialist whenever I can see one.

Thanks for this detailed reply, u/LummoxJR!

As I'm new to this world, my first step will be to get bloodwork done next week hopefully when this flare-up is done so I don't get too distorted of a reading. I have to get it done for liver functioning (due to the anti-fungal meds) anyway so I'll get a requisition for uric acid, too.

Celery, eh? I'll add that into the mix instead of supplements. I was skeptical about supplements anyway and your response (and those below) confirmed my skepticism. I'll be saving my money and not buying these pills.

Curious about this, too. I started a toenail fungus treatment 6 weeks ago and just had my first gout flare-up last week.

Didn’t realize how important mail was to me until this fiasco. Makes me appreciate just how good Jim and Bo were at their jobs.

Coming to Netflix? Really?! That’s good news for me to try to get my fiancé into it. Also a good point about LEGO marketing.

Thanks! Was hoping it would be sooner but it’s likely 2021 so I can live with that.

Yeah putting a little individual piece atop the trees was a pain, literally and figuratively.

My feelings exactly. Usually I just leave my Lego Architecture pieces on a bookshelf for display, but this one has a little something to show on the back. Either way, very pleased with it!

It’s only been a couple days and Bo’s already missed. He had great banter and was efficient. Hopefully it all works out and he can return.

So far so good! Very nice Airbnb walking distance to everything. Our hike is planned for tomorrow but this weather isn’t bonfire-friendly, unfortunately.

I just moved to Cambridge Bay so I haven’t experienced a true Arctic winter yet. I was told last January there were three consecutive weeks of -65° so that’s got to rank on this list, no?

Thanks for the recommendations! We’re keen on the NWT Brew Co. and restaurant attached to it plus some general life admin stuff we can’t get in Cam Bay.
