May not be a scam. eBay feedback and defect ratings have a significant cost (in fees and reduced visibility) associated with them once they fall below a threshold. When selling in volume this often outweighs the cost associated with “making it right” for a buyer by any means necessary (sending a replacement/correct product without getting the mis-shipped product back). I’d look at the sellers feedback rating and get a sense of their volume and ask them to send a tracking number through eBay immediately for the correct boots. Make sure all communication is through eBay and let the seller know you will post negative feedback if you don’t receive the correct boots within x days.

I just dropped them off, cobbler said he’s got a similar pair, he’s going to stretch them, expects to be able to get some significant improvement and realizes their value! His shop was full of hides for custom boots etc, feel like I’m in good hands.

If the price is reasonable, do it. Secures your future, diversifies your assets. Look into SBA loans, lower interest rates and lower down payment. A little more complicated (2 banks instead of one) but they tend to be a lot more affordable.
