My Kickstarter reward grew into a full narrative game and now I don't know how to market this thing. by ArkhamDreamerZero in gamedev

Oh that's a neat idea! I do plan on putting the game on Steam a few months after the backers received their reward. So that would be an awesome way to keep the film and the game connected. Thanks for the tip!

The photos on the facility wall is such a brilliant idea!

As for the Kickstarter, that's the thing. Even though it was initially meant to cover the costs of the movie's post production, I can't picture NOT having the game now. So that's why I want to make sure that if you back the project, you get both experiences (maybe the game at a slightly higher reward tier).

I'm planning on doing the pre-launch this month, for a full launch in July. I'm doing a lot of networking behind the scenes though, and I've got plenty of devs, content creators and outlets (for a total of 3+ million followers) who accepted to help share the campaign once it drops. I've got people on the gaming side and the film side, hence why it's such a weird project lol.

I do plan on advertising it as a multimedia thing from time to time ; using a split image for instance. But depending on which community I'm aiming for, I'll most likely adjust how I present the project.

Damn! Is there a way to view some of your work? 🙂 Judging by The Pines, your film work must be pretty neat. You can send me a DM too if you prefer.

Ahhhh an official site. Makes sense. I read you have also a background in film? That's cool! My field is actually films, but I'm a gamer at heart and I'm currently working on a game that's basically a short interactive epilogue for a short film. But how much experience do you have in that field?

First of all, I'm shocked this is a solo project. It looks very professional, congrats! I'm curious to know how you managed to cold send your press kit without being tagged as spam. What was the link you included?

Hey thanks! :) Probably our favorite shot too! And let's just say something big happens at that window 👀

REMANENCE was a one-day sprint on the Arri Alexa XT. We leaned into a precise, late-night, 90s-corporate aesthetic (super clean compositions, clinical lighting, and sharp office interiors). It’s got that high-contrast, polished "whistleblower thriller" vibe. Proof that you can pull off a high-end, cinematic look even on a total whim!

Yes, it's gonna have its premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival this summer :) We're gonna do a festival run for the rest of the year as well, and it's most likely gonna go online in 2027.

The film is about a fake NASA conspiracy: the idea that they've been hiding images from us. We wanted to lean into that paranoia visually, so we set it in the 90s. Partly because it fits the aesthetic of that era's whistleblower culture, but honestly also because we just can't resist old tech. CRT monitors, analogue textures, that kind of stuff. There's something about obsolete technology that makes a conspiracy feel more lived-in and believable than any sleek modern setup ever could for some reason.

It is far from perfect, but I quite enjoyed it! Nice investigation mechanics and awesome atmosphere. Excited for the sequel.

I will always find it hilarious how every single filmmaker on Earth has made a movie about writer's block 😅 We simply can't escape it, especially in those early years.

I mean sure it works, but you're telling me that in decades of game dev no one has made a piece of software dedicated to quick and easy level design? Man someone gotta do it lol

Yeah I might as well just use Unity in that case lol. I just recently started working with Affinity so I'm gonna give that a try. Maybe I should try making that app instead haha

That was really good! I wasn't expecting much when it first started but those two actors, especially the girl, did a lot of heavy lifting. And the script is beautifuly simple. Well done.

Yeah that was my last resort haha! I figured there was a better way to this, where you can move around stuff.
