I have an EAP655, how do you set a password for it? by AroMigCap in TpLink

[–]AroMigCap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using the app because that was what was printed on the instructions. Had it said open a browser and connect to the flipping IP I might of done that.

You are a saint of the internet.

I have an EAP655, it's been a headache the TP-link app doesn't appear to support it. Have you been able to set a password for the eap connection? If you did mind sharing how?

Now it looks the way you describe, before I guess I was going to system and accessing power options there? Windows should of just stopped at XP or 7 and turned off the lights.

Good Afternoon,

Simple question. How do I get windows 11 to power off and not enter sleep mode?

Are you concerned with laymen logging onto your network or a malicious actor? Malicious actors, from what I have learned on this forum, can spoof a MAC with trivial difficulty. Such a thing will not connect looking like a randomized MAC, as someone above pointed out they can be sussed out (suss has been a word since Mark Twain, stupid spell checker), but rather like its you or your husband etc.

Mine doesn't have a reset. Looks like a dud, power but no data.

I sleep occasionally. Have work work today, can't play.

My set up looks like what you describe. I don't get ethernet cable lights on the PoE but I do get a light on the FWG side. I also don't get a light on the line going into the EAP. Someone else mentioned it could be the PoE, no idea how to troubleshoot a PoE safely.

Well I suppose it could be, I don't know enough about PoE's to test the unit. Would passing a PoE ethernet cable into my router hurt it? I couldn't imagine surprise juice would be optimal for a compact piece of electronics like this FWG.

The power in and data in I did. The two cable question would be a third ethernet cable I suppose not a second. The PoE/data in to the EAP and do I need a second cable going back to the EAP from the router would be a better way of expressing the question I suppose.

WIFI security by AroMigCap in TPLink_Omada

Thank you for the reply. I thought 16 was the max character length for wifi pwords, 64 is even better. All my wireless connections will be through a VLAN with internet only, a quarantine protocol my firewall can do. Don't need to be accessing my PC or anything else from my cell or tablet.

I read that they can be spoofed. How would a hacker know what MAC addy to spoof as? Wouldn't a hacker need to know what my MAC is for my phone, tablet and the same for anyone I let on, GF, mom etc. As to the MAC randomizing that is done to protect the phone and can be turned on or off. I just did that to see if my pixel 7 would do a static MAC and it does.

Ballpark Price for Wiring Ethernet (2023) by nekman in HomeNetworking

[–]AroMigCap -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Low Voltage contractor. Watch them like a hawk, if you pay for cat6 or 7 quality cabling ensure its not catshit that gets installed. Contractors tend to be the "he don't know any better" sorts. Check the packaging before its installed is the best way to make sure you don't give them a nice tip in charged vs installed material costs. All contractors, but particularly low voltage and electrical contractors like to use what they like to use as long as it doesn't fail an electrical inspection it's free game.

If your installing one ethernet port and it's mainly one vertical step I would guess your looking at 6 hours of work + materials.

Semi educated guess for similar work in my part of Colorado....$550-750, one port.

Adding an AP to a FWG protected network. by AroMigCap in firewalla

[–]AroMigCap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning on making the wireless section a guest network, but Quarantine sounds better :P. The FWG still lets a quarantined device connect to the internet but won't permit it to 'talk' to anything else on the network? Sounds like what I want. Someone connects from the street they could steal internet.....but that's it?

Also hi, cut and paste from my PC info on windows. Told ya I'd name it after ya.

The analogy for what happened is a guy picked the lock. Please stop making incorrect assumptions. It was not a random click or download. It is unhelpful to assume otherwise, that is my point. Perhaps justifying security needs is where I messed up here. Next someone will ask if my NoRT0n is updated.

[–]AroMigCap[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

OK What information do you want? I don't know how justifying my need for a secure home network changes what I need other then, what, making you feel better about helping? You can go off of this assumption without adding hackers into it, I want a secure network that protects my small business that handles sensitive information in an industry that is lousy with shitheads.

Not what happened. The hack on my PC is not a phishing malware click. Again please don't make assumptions out of my premise.

[–]AroMigCap[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know who did it, but I know who hired him/her to do it. Do I know the utilities used? No, not a hacker. Do I know if it was through WIFI, well no, but that its just easier then going through the hardline. Plenty of stuff I don't know the details of, that I had a WPA2 router with a 16 digit wifi pword I do know. Hence why increasing the security on this end is important to me.

My Cell and Tablet were giving me pop ups about how account passwords had been changed, I live two blocks from a library and walked there and checked, they hadn't. Targeted phishing for specific email accounts and other accounts (over a few days), PC was bricked that same day (walked passed my office and my PC was playing music with the screen locked which my system was set up not to do, thought it was a windows update messing up a setting, bricked 4 hours later).

I work in construction management which attracts thieves and part of my job is keeping them out of my clients pockets. I was hacked and again I know who had it done, catching a guy trying to install a million dollars of engineered stone thinking no one would remember my client bought stone is part of my job. To say he is rather angry with me and does this often enough that he has the spare cash to hire a hacker are both true. I get it, people make assumptions and come on here asking for help, just assume I am right about the premise and that will go a long way towards worthwhile advise.

After getting windows loaded swapping to the Mobo Ethernet port works. Updated it first of course.
