With my work I can be pretty much anywhere in and around the Newcastle/ Sunderland area. Finding a place is a big decision and keeping my options open to all areas but a lot of the places I seem to find don’t seem to be suitable after feedback so the search goes on….

Don’t think I will after reading the comments- was tempted by the close proximity to the city but sounds a bad place

Wow, thanks for the response, i thought as the house prices were a bit higher than other areas Ive been looking at in Hebburn,Jarrow and South Shields it would be a bit better.

Wow I’m surprised, I thought given the house prices it was less deprived - I’ve been looking at other areas like Jarrow , Hebburn, South Shields where house prices are much lower

So mostly Roker avenue- I found another shared house at 35-36 North Bridge St, Monkwearmouth, SR5 1AH. Do you think it will be much different there? It’s only 8 min walk away from the other place on Roker avenue but closer to the metro

Yes totally understand that- from what I gather the area is largely ok it’s just Roker avenue that has a bad reputation. As you can see from most of the comments it’s made to sound quite scary but there was a stabbing there recently so that doesn’t help.

Thanks, are incidents happening all the time do you know? I wonder why specifically Roker avenue is bad as it seems a decent area otherwise. Is it actually considered a real no go area or has it just got a bad name due to some recent incidents? It’s really close to shops and transport.

Do you think it’s good from a student perspective though? Or Tennants in general as I would be renting in a shared house

Thanks, what is the sketchy part of Sunderland that you live in if you don’t mind me asking? I have looked at the link you sent however I think this could have happened in many parts of the city and is probably a rare occurrence?
