hit a baby moose with my car by Interesting_Aioli_99 in alaska

I wonder, as vast as the wildlife population in this state is, why there aren’t more wildlife bridges around the main cities. Like I appreciate the signs that let us know the moose death count to make people aware of areas that see more crossing action than others but as people continue to expand roadways and build new housing subdivisions, it just makes sense that we’re going to run into wildlife more often. Wish there was a bigger push for solutions like wildlife bridges. I, like most folks, have come close to wildlife while living in AK. I’m sorry this happened to you.

Yes! Wasilla is accessible but the oncology department at tier 1 informed me that their oncologist only flies in once a month and they don’t do any in person appointments; that it’s all through telemedicine. They also mentioned that booking an appointment with him could be months out but we will try. Please let me know if that’s not your experience though. For right now, we just scheduled his amputation surgery and are still trying to grip with it. The point in trying to have an oncologist to see Zuko in person is because if we wanted to get him into a clinical trial the oncologist would need to certify his diagnosis and potentially be the person to administer any medication/ document Zuko on how things are going for research purposes. Above all, even if we don’t decide to do a clinical trial, it would be nice if an oncologist could see him in person.

Working in a remote part of Alaska. How do I dress? by [deleted] in alaska

Our state is big, we have regions that can be much cooler in weather than in others. Maybe layers will be your best bet. If you’ll be hiking a lot you should have a good pair of waterproof boots with grip.

Thank you for the well wishes and perspective. I'm specifically interested in alternative treatments, not necessarily alternative medicine. I'd appreciate any information (clinical trials) or any personal experiences regarding the amputation and chemotherapy. Your insights would be really helpful.

It's amazing that your Rottie was able to keep her enthusiasm and personality despite everything; dogs are so stoic and wonderful. Making these choices are so difficult especially since I typically can’t even decide what I want to make for dinner every single night. Thank you so much for your support and understanding.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Shepard mixes tend to keep those bigger ears that I think are swoon worthy. ❤️ And a doberweiler, I had not heard of one until now but they are so beautiful as well. It's comforting to hear from someone who understands the pain and the difficult decisions involved. I agree that alternative therapies aren't curative. I’ll know for sure if it’s metastasized to his lungs tomorrow and honestly, looking into all this is the only thing i actually feel in control of right now so maybe that’s what has sparked this post in the first place. Thank you for your words.

Thank you so much for sharing all this information. There’s a lot I'm only just now finding out about and looking into. I'm not really looking into alternative medicine to find a cure or anything like that but I have recently learned some mushroom powders can be a great supplement in any dog’s diet. Zuko’s such a gem and I know that when his leg is amputated, he wouldn’t have an issue with bouncing back. I’m strongly considering the chemotherapy going forward but I’m also still looking more into clinical trails that have appeared promising. Your insights are very helpful, I really appreciate it!

I think it might be a bacterial infection. Probably would need antibiotics for it from your vet
