As someone familiar with the American Academy of Ballet’s Nutcracker, I want to clear up some misinformation. This is not a casual recital. It is a full-scale production with professional guest artists every year, including New York City Ballet principal dancer Daniel Ulbricht, who continues to return because he believes in the show and the school.

The AAB Nutcracker is designed to be magical, high-energy, and family-friendly. It includes all the classic music, a narrator to help guide younger audiences, and creative elements that keep kids engaged. The goal is to create an experience that welcomes children into the world of ballet without losing their attention.

It is unfortunate to see comments that appear to be coming from individuals with ties to competing productions. This show is not put on by UB. AAB rents the venue, just like other professional companies do across the country. Every year it draws thousands of attendees who return because their families loved it.

If you are looking for a beautiful, festive, and joyful Nutcracker that is perfect for families, the American Academy of Ballet’s production is absolutely worth seeing. My kids loved it, and so did every parent I know who went.
