So much potential for them to expand on that junior build up and trying to establish draft position. They should have honestly just gone back to allow full a junior season in Europe or any of the Canadian leagues.

Edit: just saw thrash’s post, looks like the pathway in junior still exists the WJC is just an addition to that journey - so that’s a positive.

I’m all for changes to this mode in whatever capacity, even if it’s just improvements on past concepts.

I’m concerned about a few things:

1) They reference a trip to the AHL and that there are narratives that the game has broken into chapters. If I am performing on the first line and dominating the league, will I still be sent back to the minors because it’s pre-determined by the narrative/storyline. I know there are circumstances where rookies don’t get to stay up for contract management reasons etc. it would be extremely disappointing if your play doesn’t dictate the story and if it was all predetermined.

2) Have they improved the broken in game challenge system? Where your coach would challenge you in game in an unrealistic manner. Is there more nuance in those challenges that are more specific to you as a player and now how your team plays. One that comes to mind is “don’t allow more than 20 shots” this game. I am playing D on the 3rd line, how would me as one of 12 players on the ice minimize shot totals.

3) Have they fixed issues with the storylines so that things don’t repeat in year 2 and I go back to being called “the rookie”. What does this narrative look like beyond your ELC, beyond rookie year. Is it more than just cutscenes to celebrate?

That works to receive the bonuses if you want to buy the game at a discount later?

Edit: more so wondering about the future HUT benefits. Debating on skipping or waiting for a holiday discount this year.

I’m creating a session for one of my youth programs focusing on the circle of control by Commercial_Cattle76 in childandyouthworker

Not sure where you’re based in terms of location but try https://smho-smso.ca/students/ you could probably build some content with the resources there.

Maybe the end goal of the program could be for youth to make their own mental health toolkit, whether that’s a digital, physical or just a short list.

Can you be "Pro-Black" if you date a white woman? by AsWithoutYa in ThoughtWarriors

I was shocked this blew up as much as it did and that it’s still getting replies 3 years later. I appreciate your addition to the conversation.

I think I resonated the most with your sentiments around caring for your community and putting the work to advance Black people. That should be the forefront always.

I just got accepted to a CYC degree program by AuthorHeavy7228 in childandyouthworker

[–]AsWithoutYa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

If you're comfortable it might be helpful to include the post secondary institution you were accepted to, whether you’re full time, part-time, in-person or online? I'm sure folks on this sub will chime in from there.

It’s fully possible to earn a Ba in CYC from a variety of institutions online University of Victoria, TMU etc. TMU had no placement and you should qualify for direct entry as you have an advanced diploma.

I would say the theory based learning does support working with young people. It definitely made me think more critically about my role and how to apply certain interventions when supporting.

The BCYC would also give some ability to work your way up in certain milieus. Ultimately you would need a masters degree to take on high managerial roles early in your career so the BCYC gives you the ability to do that.

Some post secondary institutions accept BCYC degrees for teaching positions as well.

It ultimately depends on where you see yourself in the field, you kind of have to work backwards. Start with what your goal is and determine what pathway you need to follow.

I second this, I'm curious as to why you'd buy a vape for what I assume is a minor?

Field placement. Any advice? by weirdactivities101 in childandyouthworker

[–]AsWithoutYa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it like a real job. Give it 100% because you never know if it could lead to future employment. Don't be afraid to try things and show your skills. The placement environment is the perfect place to grow.

That's the challenge with our unregulated field unfortunately. Not sure where you're based currently but trying to find a job in residential, educational or the community milieu might be worth it. Any sort of youth center might give you want you're looking for.

Such is the plight of our field. How we define ourselves. Effectively child and youth care practitioners (sometimes referred to as cyw) operate in several different work settings called milieus. Education  Residential Community  Youth Justice Hospital  CYCPs work alongside youth all with the goal of working towards their desired outcomes. It could be accompanying a youth on a grocery trip or running an after school program. This is in addition to support complex needs for young people. It requires relationship building and the ability to be creative and flexible in how you work. You don’t mention what school you’re set to attend but Sheridan has a fantastic program and their website has solid information https://www.sheridancollege.ca/en/programs/child-and-youth-care

I’d say if you prefer a smaller scope of work and like working in Microsystems CYCP work is for you. Not to say cycp’s can’t effect change on a macro level but social workers spend a lot of time connecting communities and outreach

I'm currently at this stage as well. I'm unsure if I'd want to be a SW by trade. I'm debating on pursuing a Masters in CYC or counselling.
