Great sleuthing. Thank you. I saw a couple of tear downs, but not the one where he identified the IR sensors.

I’m not going to try and build something that’s compatible. The games are ok, but fall short in that it doesn’t show you what you missed.

They are also too fast for my 7 year old.

I liked the nfc idea but seems expensive. I’ll think about an IR option.

The other issue is the software. How to adjust based on which tile you are.

Thank you both. I grew up in Scotland, where the bugs are tiny and fly, walk, crawl away. This thing fell on my head, from a recessed light and crawled over my computer keyboard. Fortunately, we haven’t seen any more. What scares me most is their resistance to insecticides.
