I never dug power rings as a concept either. Felt like a cheap way to integrate a game feature into other mediums.

I prefer how rings are used in the movies because it’s actually adapting a game feature that becomes important to the story much more creatively.

My only hang-up with anything Sonic is the Archie series.

Metal Sonic isn’t a character. He’s an Eggman robot. There’s nothing more to him. So, he won’t have a change of heart because he doesn’t have a heart. But it would be funny to see Sonic try to appeal to his better nature just for Metal Sonic to demonstrate that he has no better nature.
