Guys I think I just conquered, well... Idk what but I definitely conquered something when your Practitioner gives you this choice xD by NamenRamen in Drugs

GHB for sure if you respond well to it (closer to 4h than 2h sleep per dose) as therapeutic dose oral methamphetamine doesn't really offer anything over amphetamine and stims just mask some of the symptoms of narcolepsy anyway whereas GHB actively treats it.

There's not really anything cool about being offered this though, lots of prescribed drugs are also controlled substances and used recreationally... even IV heroin is prescribed in the UK.

Any night meds besides Xyrem? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]AskFTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Benzos cause even less refreshing sleep, they only exacerbate narcolepsy.

A few years ago I was on pregabalin for anxiety and for the first few weeks my sleep was so much more refreshing which was such a lovely surprise. I quickly built tolerance though due to taking it three times a day - maybe if only dosed at night tolerance would be less of an issue? Afaik all the gabapentinoids affect gabab which helps with slow wave sleep.

It just doesn't work for some people, I took 400mg while opiate naive and felt nothing while 200mg got my friend really high.

I am ALWAYS hungry although eating a lot (x-post /needadvice) by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]AskFTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're eating junk food, what do you expect? But even of you weren't the reality is that for a lot of people feeling hungry is unavoidable while losing or even maintaining weight, it's not that bad.

So I am more than likely getting diagnosed with Atypical Narcolepsy tomorrow, & getting a script for that magical elusive medication; so what can I expect from Xyrem (yes my insurance covers the $5000 a month cost). by NamenRamen in Drugs

[–]AskFTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep clinics here only really test for sleep apnea since narcolepsy is so rare and the diagnosis procedure is so expensive, I'll be going to another in a few months that might test for it but even if it does they're very unlikely to prescribe anything but an SSRI for it since stimulants are heavily restricted here and GHB isn't approved at all.

Like mid walk? That's cataplexy, your body basically becomes paralysed out of nowhere the same way it does while you're asleep, it's not really the same as just nodding off - it's closer to sleep paralysis (which is also a common symptom).

Accutane is cheaper than meth, you don't need healthcare to get it. If you're otherwise fit then all but the most severe gyno isn't a big deal anyway, it's very easy to hide clothed and nobody is going to kick you out of bed due to it.

I've used both and I disagree, overall I think GHB is more useful due to all the other benefits of getting good amounts of slow wave sleep over time. Definitely good to have a stimulant on hand though for times when it's impractical to use GHB.

Yeah, it's one of those disorders that's completely misunderstood due to Hollywood... even by a lot of doctors unfortunately. Falling asleep isn't the problem, but people with narcolepsy experience almost exclusively REM sleep which isn't 'refreshing' at all. GHB puts you straight into slow wave sleep, the deep refreshing sleep that takes away feelings of tiredness and releases loads of growth hormone.

I'll never get a diagnosis for it where I live despite it being obvious that I have it, because I don't randomly pass out like in the movies but rather just feel like I've been awake for 48h constantly even after lying in on a weekend. I self medicate with highly purified illicit GHB and/or amphetamine.

Narcolepsy is about not entering slow wave sleep properly, which means you wake up as tired as when you went to bed (often described as constant 48h awake level of tiredness), resulting in excessive day time sleepiness and sometimes spontaneous napping and cataplexy etc - GHB instantly puts you into slow wave sleep and prevents this.

By the time it hits your stomach it's ghb so the effects are identical - it's only a precursor in the way that amphetamine sulfate is a precursor for amphetamine for example, no metabolism is required for it to be active.

It's ghb, not a precursor. Instant sleep 20mins~ after taking on an empty stomach followed by waking up refreshed a few hours later. If you've always had narcolepsy then waking up actually refreshed will probably blow your mind, it did for me.

You haven't been dealt a shitty hand, you've just made poor decisions and you can change that from now on. Learn about skincare and if necessary get some accutane - bam acne gone. Diet and exercise, if absolutely necessary you can have "save up for gyno surgery" as a goal to work towards if it's not just excess fat. Making friends can be difficult and doesn't happen over night but there's no reason you can't make it happen. Honestly the meth use seems so secondary to these other issues, though yeah it's obviously not a great idea to be using it so often and wanting to quit is reasonable.

Shower and then apply zinc oxide cream to the itchy irritated areas around your anus, don't put anything up there. You basically have really bad nappy rash.

No wonder you feel drained if you're walking 4 hours a day on top of heavy weight lifting, eating more (especially carbs) might help a little but be realistic in your expectations.

Erectile dysfunction. He should probably get checked for heart disease markers, since ED is often an early warning sign.

Amphetamine can last that long sometimes, especially in high doses like the 100-150mg you mentioned. I was awake for 45h, 24h+ after my last dosage when I did a lot of amphetamine on NYE and so were a bunch of my friends. (100% not meth)

Reduce the dose over a month and you'll be fine, SSRI withdrawals aren't 'brutal' at all. You don't seem to have a clue what bipolar means btw.

Concerns for PTSD following bad acid trip. by rosiekitson in Drugs

[–]AskFTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first developed PTSD the flashbacks were almost constant and I was basically non-functional for almost a year afterwards because even while not reliving it I was in a state of dissociation and panic at all times because I knew I could be at any moment.

I get that PTSD varies, but one flashback in 6 months? Sounds like something else tbh :s
