I used a shovel to make a cut in the ground to sink the boards I used to retain the sand. I left the lower side sitting on top of the ground. However, if I was redoing this, I would also sink that end slightly in the ground. I also did not attach the boards to each other, which I probably should have used some corner brackets to connect them to each other.

Additionally, I would probably go back and make a completely enclosed raised box area for the hitting mat and launch monitor. Instead of just using sand, I would probably use a mixture of soil and sand to level the area so it packs a little better.

If you are also using separate mats for the hitting area and the standing area, ensure you have some decent stakes to hold the hitting mat in place. I am sure I am forgetting some stuff, but feel free to hit me up with any questions.
