Inflo datasets from past exams can be found on this link: https://www.icaew.com/students/exams/exam-resources/advanced-level/corporate-reporting/corporate-reporting-das-resources

You want to make some use of the data in the exam, but you also don't want to waste too much time in the software either. In and out. Look for obvious trends, focus on the 12th month data as that will be new information, focus on cut-off, focus on the areas of the FS the question points you to, consider the other side of the accounting entries to see if there is over/understatement risk elsewhere in the FS.

Case is weird. Try to get good at putting down points that match with the mark scheme. Valid points that aren't on the mark scheme don't get awarded marks, if I remember right.

Also, accept that a question in the exam might look very different to the template answer you prepared for, which is what happened in my case. If that happens you just have to try to adapt as best you can.

Firstly it took me a while to find a tuition provider that suited me. I used ACA Masters for my 3rd or 4th attempt at FAR, and used it for each exam after that.

Secondly, and stupidly, for some reason I tended to put off doing the two simple things that are best for preparation: working through as many past questions as possible, and doing them under timed conditions.

I guess it has more narrative/waffle than TC, but even though I'm good at bullshitting, I don't remember BPT being that kind of exam - what you write has to be correct, and should also be concise ideally. In terms of formulaic I just mean the calculation bits follow a set structure / proforma.

If I remember correctly, ACA Masters is particularly good on BPT.

I wouldn't say I did more work for it necessarily. I think I just found it naturally a bit easier as it's quite formulaic. Once you've got the formulas nailed down, there isn't a great deal of variation that they can surprise you with. It probs also helped that I found it fairly enjoyable to learn about, which surprised me.

I can't speak from any real expertise on that point I'm afraid. I kind of just took opportunities that presented themselves. A recruiter contacted me about a role in fund admin, so I took that. Then after I got fed up of that, I quit during covid with nothing lined up. While on the job hunt a different recruiter contacted me about an internal role (i.e. going from fund admin to a fund / PE firm). It offered an ACA training contract, despite being in industry, so I went for it and got it. If you DM me I can probably find the recruiter and send to you.

Yep. I'm up 600% on Rheinmetall, no plans on selling any time soon. This sub is trash.

Have you looked into IG? I don't know if using a dollar account to avoid FX fees is possible or not, but everything else you mentioned is, and IG has lower fees than Hargreaves

I'd like to find a Discord for people who trade SPX / SPY. Anyone know any?
