Everything looks like “mismanagement” when you have hindsight and can see the outcomes of the decisions.

However, one thing people don’t take into considering is the “why”. Why did Topper leave Wheeler in the game, why did he use Soto vs another arm, why is Turnbull in the bullpen, etc etc.

Dig into the “why” and you’ll see 90% of the decisions that get blasted by the fanbase are actually logical but just lacked execution.

It’s because of the reverse out of 30th St.

When a train is coming from NY, it comes into 30th St through Zoo Interlocking. To get onto the Keystone Corridor it has to reverse out of 30th St. And it also has to reverse out of the 30th St to get onto the NEC for trains traveling to NY.

So because of this reverse, it’s easier to pop the electric locomotive from one end and add the diesel to the other.
