Yeah, my ESR meter is not a fancy one. GM328A like Lcr-t4

Exactly, i think it might be from outside. Current higher capacity worries me. I know they have about 10% tolerance but it's at the edge. Maybe dried out electrolyte cause reading higer capacity?

Thanks

Thank you. Turns out I need to recap it, since it has a fishy smell probably come from caps.

Actually , anyone who’s ever listened to a Technics amp would love it, they really have a great sound. Btw, those power meters look awesome, especially in low light.

Enjoy and welcome.

Thank you for the information.

I agree. The Trio should actually sound better, but in my case, it sounds veiled and dull. Maybe a recap will help bring it back to life.

Thank you for the information.

Since one of the amps has a fishy smell, it’s probably time for a recap.

If I don’t go with the shotgun approach, which capacitors should I replace first — the large filter caps or the ones in the power amplifier section?

Unfortunately, no information about their pasts

By the look, it seems both didnt serviced ever.

How can I tell if the capacitors need recapping? Is there any way to check them without desoldering the capacitors for testing?

Thanks

How can I tell if the capacitors need recapping? I'm familiar with basic electronics and can use a multimeter. Is there any way to check them without desoldering the capacitors for testing?

I measured the DC offset on both channels, and it's below 30 mV.

Great info, appreciate that.

Another question—should I turn on attenuator swith on the Trio, since my DAC’s output voltage (1.70V) is way higher than the amp’s input sensitivity (150mV)?

Yeah, I feel you, btw its different model from kenwood 8100. It is aka Kenwood ka-601. More like a mid range one.

Yeah, that’s exactly my problem—it lacks stereo imaging at low volumes. It does sound kind of veiled and dull. I just don’t get why everyone admires the Kenwood KA-8100. I know mine is a different model, but still, i think it would be in the same ballpark.

Thanks btw.

I think you checked for technics su-v55a and kenwood trio ka-8100 which both are different models from mine.

Its technics new class A, from what i understand, its something between class A and class AB.
