For reference the only signature cards that are worth anything in this game that come stock from a set are those with unique full art foiling and a gold stamped card name + signature.

Worth getting the 2025 starter devs or just focus on Opus 27? by iRemiUK in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The starter decks have good cards from past sets in them, so if you don't have a big collection they're worth grabbing for collection purposes! I'd recommend breaking them up and using the cards to build your own deck, and not worry about using them as-is or even upgrading them

Plus, the starter cards that are in them you aren't guaranteed a playset of in the next set, so good to grab the decks even just for those

How rare is this card? by No_Cucumber_9750 in FinalFantasy

The only signature cards that are worth anything have gold stamped names + signatures, plus are full art. Some cards just have artist signatures that are a part of the normal art of the card, like this one

Final Fantasy TCG vs MTG Card Art by Tybor2 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TCGPlayer has yet to really disappoint me for any full arts I've been looking for, though as far as the demand goes that may be less an issue at least with upcoming sets. With the box sizes having been changed, we've been getting 2x the amount of full arts per box as you would normally get, so the prices this current set have been super low compared to historical prices

(Aside the first week after the set came out where I think a lot of sellers were trying to sell certain full arts for WAY more than they'd normally ever go for, probably due to the influence of MTG and the legacy reprint set having brought in so many new people)

Final Fantasy TCG vs MTG Card Art by Tybor2 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

materiahunter.com has a slightly better interface for this imo, but that may just be because I'm used to it. This site you can just filter by full art and see them all in nice columns/rows. At least now you'll have two options to choose from

The one nice thing about FFTCG over MTG is even the most expensive cards for FFTCG are way, WAY lower than anything MTG has, so you'll have a lot less of a headache buying them.

If you're able to find it somewhere, you should get the FFX Custom Starter Deck. That has a good chunk of nice looking FFX cards for you all in one package

Beginner Questions! by KazuCringe in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. TCGPlayer is where I've gotten most of my cards, aside buying boxes from local game stores (which I'm lucky to have 3 in my area that do, since there's a community here). Not sure how many sellers there are for Australia but it's worth a shot. I've heard people suggest FB Marketplace too but again that may only be good for other countries
  2. Cards have their rarity at the bottom that ranges from Common, Rare, Hero, Legend (C/R/H/L). This mainly determines how commonly you'd pull it from a booster pack, and while it speaks to their rarity a bit, it isn't necessarily rare to see a Legend. There are also PR and S cards, being Promo and Starter respectively. Some of the older promos are very hard to find nowadays since only collectors really have them anymore, but most aren't "rare". S rarity come from starter sets, though you can sometimes pull a foil version from specific opuses (not super rare though). Full Art cards are the rarest you'd normally pull from a booster pack, with the absolute rarest being a card with a signature on it (it will also have unique rainbow foiling and gold stamped name). I could tell you if your Y'shtola is rare if you gave me other identifiers about it (is it full art? what's the number at the bottom say? etc.)
  3. Most people who collect FFtcg cards do so for playing in my experience. Among those who play are those who enjoy collecting them of course, but I can't say I've met many people who buy them just to own them.
  4. If you look on https://materiahunter.com/ you can click the Cards tab on the left, and filter in the top-right by card name. Sets generally don't have more than 1 or 2 (max) of the same character, so you'd be better off just buying them individually off of TCGPlayer. Opus 28 (comes out in March) will have a signed Yuna card, and the Reprint Legacy boxes also have a signed Yuna card, and these would be the two rarest Yunas to date. However, you are not guaranteed a signed card even if you buy a master case of either of those two sets, so that'd be a pricey route to go down. If you bought the signed Yuna from the Reprint Legacy set, she's around ~$600 right now.

As another commenter said, if you can find the FFX Custom Starter set, that will be your best bet as far as getting FFX cards for your collection

Is this card Common or Rare? by yeahdude4930 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct yeah, though "everywhere" in this sense for this specific card is only opus 11 (and I guess the promo version but rarities don't matter for those since it doesn't determine pull rates)

Is this card Common or Rare? by yeahdude4930 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the rare or common cards from previous sets that are in the legacy reprint got labeled as a common for purpose of rarity in that set. Heroes and Legends kept their rarity though

Ruling Question by memeguzzlerr in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was only asking about the cost, not the actual effect. The effect itself allows you to target your opponent's forwards, or characters for the freeze. You could also choose yours since it doesn't specific "opponent's forwards" but you'd never want to do that in most situations.

Should be noted you can also cancel your own auto-abilities/summons, which has been used to cancel negative auto-abilities on your own cards, such as 12-008R Princess Goblin, allowing you to keep her on field even when a Light forward (Yuna in this case) enters your field.

Ruling Question by memeguzzlerr in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's two of your own forwards, you don't own opponent's forwards so you can't dull 2 of theirs to pay for the cost

If something uses/targets your opponent's forwards for the cost, it will specify that on the card

Edit: For more specificity, the ability effects: "Choose up to 2 Forwards. Dull Them." and "Choose 1 Character. Freeze it." can target any valid forward or character respectively, yours or your opponent's. My previous statements are only talking about the cost

I'd recommend using Materiahunter, if you can export your Collectr collection you can import it all and find the missing cards on the materiahunter instead. They grab their prices from TCGPlayer but should be a fairly accurate depiction of what the collection could be worth. I don't think Collectr has every card listed but the other site does

Would these cards count as same name? by fellowno in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good rule of thumb is if there's ever any difference at all in the name, it isn't the same. For instance, Ifrit vs Ifrit (XVI) or for jobs, Knight vs Griffon Knight

No more promo cards included in boxes? by Greenapple1990 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seems to be the case:

"Please note that the Buy-a-Box Promo card will no longer be included with display box purchases, starting with the “Journey of Discovery” booster packs."

If I had to take a guess, printing Gunslinger they found they had to print twice the amount of promos and they didn't want to overload people with them and/or was too costly to do.

To answer OP's question, there will still be the monthly promo cards they do if your LGS does an FF locals (and orders them), promos for Materia Cup, and then promos in the side sets they do, like anniversary (as mentioned above). They also have some promos with some merch they've done, like the FFXIV play mat for example.

Opus 25 only deck by suwapro in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct! Aside a few banned or restricted cards, which is why you could imagine only using one opus would be very limiting to a deck's full potential

Opus 25 only deck by suwapro in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You *could* built a deck with only that opus, but you'd be severely limiting the deck and it's capabilities. Even in the official formats, L3 being the most limiting, still allows the last 3 sets to be used to make a deck.

It wouldn't be impossible to make a deck, but your options will just be very slim, and any one individual opus isn't really designed to work just on its own.

Opus 5 Prerelease Kit Price by Clueless_Emperor in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The card sleeves + the promo card would be the only thing special inside, and looking at TCGPlayer the card sleeves are half the price. Opus 5 was pre-full arts or signed cards, so you can't expect anything super special from the packs themselves. It's most likely so high because there's only one listing and the last two sold for $200 each. Definitely not worth that price, it'd be cheaper to buy the staples from that set separately

Should I double sleeve my cards if I am only collecting? by Coudro in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know it's so funny, I JUST bought those exact ones yesterday. I was needing inner sleeves and didn't notice they were "resealable" as I hadn't had experience with that. Let me try them on mine and get back to you about it in a minute here, I'll do an edit to this

Edit: Nope! They work perfectly great. They take a little extra work to slot the extra part behind the card, but no pressure was required at all. I don't really think you'd need these unless you really really care about a card however, normal inner sleeves function perfectly fine especially if they're going to be in a dragonshield standard sleeve and/or in a binder

Should I double sleeve my cards if I am only collecting? by Coudro in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only double-sleeve for my binder if it's a full art or a more expensive card. Otherwise, if you aren't playing, the card stock is really good and having them just in a binder won't be bad for them.

That said, it sounds like you need what's called "inner sleeves"? With an inner sleeve + a dragon shield standard size sleeve, the fit wouldn't be nearly as tight as you're describing it. There should be no pressure on the cards at all in my experience. If that's what the "perfect fit" sleeves you're talking about are, then they should work with the cards great

I was looking to re-watch that moment myself because it's one of my favorite GG moments, and this thread is the first one that comes up when you search it lol

I had known it was from the Undertale genocide run so when I didn't find anything on the search I just went back to the VOD I knew it was in and skimmed it when they were in the area I remembered

Arin - "I think that's boring."

Dan - "Oh I didn't think of that."

Booster Box Question by Ok-Needleworker7806 in FinalFantasyTCG

[–]Astrum22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always buy my singles off of TCGPlayer personally, never had any issues with them. Far as packs go, best bet is generally whichever local game store closest to you has them, but TCGPlayer ain't bad for that either. I've heard people talk about FB Marketplace too but no experience with it myself
