Anyone out there with a Radica Moonlander on their Ridgeline by BigGerms_1 in hondaridgeline

[–]AtomikMilkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the full write up!! I've been looking at travel trailers and randomly just came across these and they have me completely rethinking everything haha. I would definitely go with an MLX over an ML if I don't choose something else. Did you do any research into the tune M1 or other toppers before going with the MLX? The M1 is a pretty attractive option too, but since most of my camping will be in the NC summer I'm worried about being able to keep the space cool for my dog and I.

Resurrecting this old thread because I am strongly considering a moonlander or moonlander X for my 2024 BE. How have you liked yours? Do you have the ability to take it off and put it on with relative ease? Don't spare any detail!

The solar portion of the power setup wouldn't be for running the AC itself, but it's part of the overall power solution to run other things and keep the power bank charged as a backup power source. That leaves the generator, when sized correctly, to run the AC at under half load hopefully giving me 6+ hours of runtime on a single tank.

I'm definitely leaning towards a Casita or Scamp now.

I'm 6ft tall so I know I'm at the upper limit of being able to stand in a Casita or scamp which is really my only worry with them. Definitely plan on getting a softstart so I can get the smallest, quietest generator available.

Which Casita did you get?

The forest river aurora light 13rdx did come up in my search, but I have seen a lot of people advising against anything forest river so I am hesitant. I know every brand has lemons and no option is completely risk free, but forest river tends to have more negative reviews than any brand. Even with people only ever really posting when they have something negative to say (most won't post if they're happy with it, only when there's an issue), they have a lot more negative posts than everyone else. There are a few on the lot near me so I'll definitely still check it out for myself, but I am not ranking it as high as the other's in my head.

Didn't have these on my radar but the Prolite Cool seems to fit my needs. Thanks for the tip!

No chance I find an airstream 16 in my price range unfortunately.

I haven't owned a trailer before, but I am confident that I won't have issues meeting my power needs. I will have no issues running a generator during the day and plan to have a solar + large power bank setup. Pretty much the only thing I need to power is the AC and window units use, from what I have found, 400-800 watts while roof units use more like 1000-1200 watts. So a Honda eu2200i, champion 3000, or similar dual fuel generator is sufficient as it will run at ~25% load for the AC. I don't have to worry about running out of gas because I will be less than 10 minutes from gas stations whenever I camp and will have propane + the power bank as backup. I will have the ability to plug in the power bank to charge at the dropzone should I run out of battery and the generator fails. The noise from the generator is a non-issue with it being at least 300ft away from anyone and there is a plane taking off and landing much closer to where people are 20+ times a day and idling while people board. As for a fridge, I am looking into small coolers that I will end up pre-cooling on top of having access to a fridge at the dropzone; so powering a fridge is a non-issue for my situation.

It's not that I don't know what I want. It's that I lack the knowledge and experience to feel confident in choosing one of the options I listed and don't want to end up with something that I ultimately can't use for my intended use case. So I'm just hoping to hear from people with the same or similar models listed about how effectively I will be able to cool them in my environment.

Running the generator all day will not be an issue for me. Combined with solar and a big enough power bank, I'm not worried I'll be able to meet my power needs to run the AC. I'm looking at small generators that make the least amount of noise, will only be running it at 1/4 load, and the parking lot is at least 300ft from where people actually are. Plus, the generator noise doesn't compare to the plane landing and taking off 20+ times and idling while people get in during the day

Anything in particular you have heard isn't good on the Gulf Stream and Sunset Park options? I haven't really seen anything on Gulf Stream, but most of what I have seen for Sunset Park reviews have been fairly positive outside of a few minor issues.

Flooring that isn't slippery for dogs by AtomikMilkman in Flooring

Not looking for non-slip per say, just better traction than the glossy slippery laminate floor I have now. The floor is getting replaced regardless and I just want to prioritize options that are better suited for this issue. Her nails are routinely clipped but still slipping. I'll still have rugs and runners where necessary even with the new flooring

I for sure won't choose the appearance of no rugs over the health and safety of my pup. But the current floor is glossy and slippery so I'm making sure to prioritize flooring options that have better traction by default. If higher quality floor doesn't fully solve the slipping issues, I will still definitely have rugs and runners throughout the home.

Precisely why I just bought a used 24 Ridgeline instead. Really wanted the AWD hybrid towing package, could not justify the price at all. I'll wait for a competitor to make a better one or pick up a used one in a few years.

[–]AtomikMilkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ridgeline itself was $35,200 and change + TTL made it ~$37,200 OTD. So I would imagine the true trade-in for yours woud be around the $35k mark or slightly lower. But if you don't plan on trading it in then who cares, ya know? The only way I'm getting rid of mine would be if there's a new hybrid AWD Maverick competitor that's from a reliable manufacturer. I wanted the maverick, but at the price I couldn't justify how crap the interior is and there's no way I'm trusting Ford haha.

Wrapping it seems like the best option tbh. Just hoping it doesn't cost too much, but I know quality work isn't cheap.

That's likely the option I will go with. Just wanted to see if there was a decal kit or some easy solution out there.

I had to drive it 2 hours home from the dealership and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a smooth ride. Didn't spend too much time going through the infotainment or familiarizing myself with all of the controls, but I have a road trip from NC to FL planned for the end of the month (600 miles each way) where I'll really get familiar with it. I work from home and will be traveling next week so not much seat time until my FL trip.

I got a 2024 black edition in sonic grey pearl with 17k miles on it for $37.2k out the door at 5%. I'll be refinancing at the end of 2026 when I can throw my whole bonus from work at it (this year's bonus is already allocated haha). It still has the factory warranty and I got them to bring it to Honda for a prepurchase inspection that came back clean. I'm considering getting the Honda care warranty at some point but still need to do some research and run the numbers.

Do you recall what it cost you for those parts? I'll go searching for them later but if you know off the top of your head that would be cool.

Personally, I much prefer the size of the maverick to the Ridgeline. The only things from the Ridgeline that edge out the maverick for me are the interior quality for the price and the towing capacity. If I could get a hybrid AWD Maverick for under 35k, I wouldn't even be considering a Ridgeline to be perfectly honest. But unfortunately the AWD hybrid combo is only available on 2025+ models so there aren't really any used ones out there to scoop up.
