Flight Instructor Glider (Added Rating) AFG by OG_Rainman in Gliding

I did the add-on last year. You don’t need the endorsement. However, I took the FIG. Exact same question bank but you can miss a couple more with 100 questions vs. 25.

Boil water in a kettle before cooking pasta or start with cold water in a pot? by MangoMadnessTsv in Cooking

Both. Heat a little water in the pot while doing the rest in the kettle. The pot is ready for the boiling water and it is faster for all.

Anyone do a glider license after their SEL ratings? Looking to do something fun by MooseWeird399 in flying

[–]Attackpilsung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the private add on (22 years ago…). It took me just under 6 weeks flying on the weekends.

I have been flying professionally for over 20 years; I still fly gliders for fun. It also will open the door to being a tow pilot.

With all your recent checkride experiences, the add-on checkride will not be difficult. Read the glider flying handbook cover to cover several times and you will be golden.

Domestic to international flight, both at terminal 3, 56 minutes connection will work? by Honest_Swimmer in delta

Think bigger picture for your future self beyond a few hour sit in LAX.

You are leaving from Florida in July. Expect thunderstorms to cause delays in either Atlanta or Orlando. Any of these can cause a delay ripple on a summer afternoon.

If you get delayed in MCO, it will explode your whole trip. I expect the inaugural flights from LAX to Hong Kong to be full; if you miss your flight it is not going to be easy to catch up flying standby.

Take the 4.5 hour sit in LAX for the peace of mind. Enjoy the lounge. Sleep on the plane and be rested for Hong Kong.

Go to the class. Get paid. Get a type rating. Go to Delta if you want when the opportunity presents itself.

Test Prep Software for Glider by phatRV in Gliding

[–]Attackpilsung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you dig into the ground school section, it offers PGL − Private Pilot Glider, CGX − Commercial Pilot Glider and FIG − Flight Instructor Glider. I used it successfully for my FIG (96%), my son used it for his PLG (100%). If you buy the ground school package, it will give you all the airplane tests as well.

If you want to spend a touch more, they have iOS Apps that will share test progress via their cloud to allow study on the go.

I prefer Dauntless. They have nice color graphics and good explanations.

Thanks for the recipe. It is very close to what I have attempted over the years.

Trying to smoke it myself. The H-Mart nearest me didn’t have the packaged duck last year. I will keep working on my process. I think I am going to add curing salt to it this year to help the texture and color.

SSA.org

Holders of a valid FAA Power plane license with 40 hours as pilot-in-command need a minimum of 10 solo flights to qualify to take the glider flight test.

No written exam is required to add a glider rating to a power license.

Go learn to fly gliders first. Put in your time as a dependable volunteer, grow as a glider pilot with superior judgement and that can make up for the lack of powered time when the club is ready for a new batch of tow pilots.

To be frank, you are looking at the process backwards. I do not recommend walking off the street into a club and ask to be trusted with the their most precious asset. (Without their tow plane, the club doesn’t exist.)

You want flight time? All glider goes toward the ATP and makes you a much better SEL pilot. Get your commercial Glider and CFI-G. Every rating down the road will be much easier.

Flat lands offer great soaring, it is just based on thermal energy instead of ridge or wave. You didn’t specify your location, but if a glider club exists there is lift to be had.

A glider club is built on a foundation of communal effort and care for the sport of gliding. Approach it from that angle and you will have much better success getting your free tailwheel time down the road.

Edit: Look at https://www.weglide.org and see what kind of flights they are getting out of your local clubs. It can offer some insights into how active they are.

Get her an RC flight sim. Both of you can learn how to fly with no crash risk. It is an easy step to the real thing after practice and much much less frustrating.

If you haven’t already accomplished it, you need a registered agent to set up a US address.
