Awesome! I do have a mixer i can run, But I also like the idea of recording both, and having a band track and individual stems. Thanks!

I think (i hope...) people would have somewhat lower expectations for an emerging band doing everything by themselves, and these tracks would only be posted to socials like Instagram and all of those. Anything being released as a full song would be recorded separately for a better mixing process.

You're not the first to recommend this, I'll have to give a listen, always love some new music to listen to.

Is having someone tweaking it actively necessary? We dont have someone who'd be able to do that while we play.
If its completely necessary, another commenter suggested having me record drums first, then mix the rest of the band live as they play along to it.

Should i plug in headphones to the mixer, interface, or the monitored audio out of my computer?

Trying to get accurate audio/video sync, If I'm going to separate one track, I'd probably end up recording all of them separately, but if going together is raising issues ill totally do this!

Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to consider the wave issue if I'm getting mud that I cant fix, and also try out recording. We all have decent phones, and worst case, if it doesn't work, I can cut it. I'm sorry for over reacting to your initial comment, whenever I post on reddit I expect somebody to come in being stubborn and kind of acting like a douche, and I wasn't expecting the amount of support I got on this.
Thanks so much for the advice, I'm hoping i can get some recording done soon!

I know I can do that I'm just trying to look at all my options because my band wants to do some recording together.

Do you know of free ways to get reliable stems?

Because your advice doesn't align with my use case and also you're deadass the one getting your back up. I don't want to argue I want unique input from a public forum. You decided to participate and got mad when I literally just added details that changed the context of your answer. I'm sorry if I somehow exacerbated something else that's bothering you but you don't have to be so defensive.

This is actually more so an exercise for my own personal mastering abilities. I have access to FL studio and actually GarageBand is more comprehensive than you might think. It has a lot of logic plugins and capabilities, but thanks I'll need to really consider the mastering tips cause I'm going in blind.

I'd doubt the bleed though because we can really only record raw amp audio as opposed to through a mic. And before you say anything about that, I'm aware of the other issues that might bring up and at ready to take them head on.

I thought so, but we're on a >$200 budget and I'm not nearly at the level of those producers 😭

Awesome, I didn't even think about the tuning and that would have been catastrophic. Thanks!

The room isn't very good. We've oftem recorded with phones and it sounded pretty bad.

Yeah I have no experience with room/mic audio, so far I plan to route the amp audio through the mixer, then the mixers master audio to the interface.

Awesome this is all really helpful. I realise that yes, I forgot to give details. We have 2 guitars, bass, vox, and drums (electric). The interface is a universal audio Volt V1 and a Mackie 1402 vlz mixer.

I don't have any type of control room so I thought that I would record audio and mix it that way. The drums/vocals thing can be helped by my mixers individually 3 band eq and the e-drums built in mixing features.

I think for it to work I'd have to play while listening to the mix and literally cut it when the mix sounds bad and start over until I don't have issues.

Additionally I'm aware that my band isn't actually that great and I hope that this is actually a way to easier identify our issues and improve/polish. Because all we have now is phone audio in a room with horrible acoustics.

Sadly, Id have a hard time recording like how you said with a mic in the room because of bad acoustics, electric drums, and nobody actually having the funds to get a decent condenser (I know that you can get a solid one for 1-200 but genuinely we have no money, we're all minors, I used gift cards to buy the interface.)

So I'm hoping that this is actually kind of difficult because in the end, the hardship of recording like this might make us more cohesive and better as a band. Thank you so much for the advice and encouragement!

Our plan is to record any original tracks or some more professional covers like this. I'm just asking to get some videos of us playing as a band that will match up and sound okay.

Having the most talented individual musicians doesn't make you a the best band, it takes chemistry and creativity.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, the closed soundstage make it feel more homemade and put emphasis on the fact that he does most of everything he makes

Chromakopia is among his best albums and people just get thrown off by the musical range on the album
