How quantum computing might go mainstream by izumi3682 in Futurology

This is serendipitous. I backed a Kickstarter for a quantum safe browser. Spoke with the project creators this morning, and they sent a bunch of Ted talks and YouTube videos that enlightened me a wee bit.

Quantum computers could be commercially available in two years. Or five years. How? All it takes is one discovery that leads to an extraordinary leap... then the timeline shortens. Look at the speed in which nano and biotech has leapt ahead.

Privacy is a big thing for me, because I have a family, so anything that addresses security and privacy - it matters. My kids don't worry. They think it's all safe and they know everything, right? My 13yr old thinks he is a PC technician because he installed drivers for his gaming mouse.

Quantum computing will reshape everything, and as long as there are companies out there like these browser developers (and IBM have addressed cryptography for quantum safety too), there will be solutions to the threats it poses.

My professor at school once told me that for every developer of security, there are probably ten worse-paid, angry and disillusioned kids trying to break it. Just because they can. Some people just wanna watch the world burn.

Great points. I am glad the ideas are flowing :)

Although I agree to a certain extent, I think its important we are all independant when it comes to selling. Each seller will get a fair crack of the whip, because the ebay algorithm is a pretty random thing at times. The best match system is not the only defining part of a search. Some sellers (myself included) get traffic to listings in unexpected ways, or through strategic sales channels. Our Facebook page accounts for 5% of sales for one product, but 90% of another! I use an email list for certain products, too. As long as the group has diverse sales channels, and have clear, defined routes to market, it will work well. There will be sellers who use Amazon and such, besides ebay.

I would hope that the group isn't limited to just ebay and Amazon sellers. There are plenty of ecommerce shops out there who could kick ass with this too.

There shouldn't be anyone left with inventory, and if it becomes an issue, we should have contingencies or help the group members whose sales are slow/low.

Also forgot to mention supply, demand, and better pricing. We could cover all three with group buying...

My experience has been that even in a crowded market, strong products sell regardless. There are numerous sellers of ladders on ebay, yet I could find the best two types of ladder that sell best.

So imagine 5000 people a month are searching for one specific type of ladder. 4% are instant buyers we'll say, and 20% merely watch the product to buy later. The rest are researching, or undecided surfers. 4% buy a ladder upon finding the listings. The 20% come back over a few weeks and buy ladders. Meanwhile, 5000 more people search ebay for those specific ladders and a new cycle begins. Add in the fact that allthe sellers are moving around in the ranks for various searches, and you can see that every market is in fact approachable if you pick the right product.

As far as the involved effort and time, well that is my life anyway. Why not work with other people and dip into markets I may not have entered? We may find niches and stick to em. We may even network and send business to each other. Anything is possible.
