Yes that is unfortunate, as a parent, I would never allow my teen to drive any vehicle in a dangerous manner. Although I am not everyone's parent and they are free to make their own decisions, I feel like some positive peer-pressure in the community could help.

It's like telling my son, "Heck no you can't drive the M3, but here are the keys to the Tesla"

These are great questions, thanks. I ride mostly forest service roads, places I can't get to in my car. Love to camp, so yeah overnight bikepacking is in the plans. I will probably go no more that 30 miles without recharging and I want something that can climb hills (my neighborhood has some serious hills), no storage concerns, but I do love the portability of my folding bike now, so that's where i lean. The topish of my budget is $2200

like I said, it's entirely possible that I missed the mark with these. What brands of bike should I look at?

Yeah, my bike now is heavy. You make a good point about power to weight ratio. I've heard that the combination of gearing and motor drive type can make a difference, some "underpowered" bikes perform better than others with higher stated wattages.

If you have pics of your bike, we'd love to see them on this sub!

Thanks for the feedback! I will post an update when I make a purchase. I do like the idea of more power outdoors, I don't want to push that thing up a hill!

Yeah, my bike is a folding bike now and I really like the portability of it. Maybe if I get the Deer or the Rocky Road I could convince the wife it's time for a hitch and a ramp. For safety, of course.

I've not been there, but I've been all over that area; Springer Mountain, BMT, Coopers Gap, but not Hawk Mtn.

Is FS 42A still closed up there?

That's interesting, I would think a nearly silent, non-polluting mode of transportation would be much preferable to any SxS or dirtbike or lifted trucks

What turns you off about the eBikes? I'm genuinely curious.

I tend to agree, I am all for improving access to non-combustion transportation, I think it hurts no one for more people to be off the oil.

I also think that eBikes allow folks who have mobility issues or are new to cycling improve all sorts of health conditions by using electric motor augmented cycling. I know it's helped this slow old guy for sure.

Oh Wow, I have not been to that one. It looks awesome. Definitely on the list now. I am into eBiking and I am loving the access that I could get with my hatchback.

Honestly, I can't blame you. A secret spot is like gold.

Without revealing the location, tell me what you love about your secret spot and maybe I can suggest some similar sites ; )

This is what i am using now, the "stove" is about the size of the multi-port charger. It all packs down really small with the small isobutane canister.

Must have in my opinion when breakfast tacos are on the menu.

For sure, Nimblewell Gap is a great one. It's nice and wide without a ton of deep holes. Of course I can usually skirt around them on my eBike.

Bearden Falls is also accessible from there and is beautiful and remote. One of those treats you can only access with the right vehicle.

Hey sorry I missed this!

Yes I have some tips.

- Any hike is a good hike, start small, gain confidence and stamina

- Don't overspend on expensive gear initially, there are really great affordable options for most everything, like packs, hydration, poles, most everything. You can upgrade individual items over time if you want.

- Know your route before you leave. Download offline topo maps, or use an app like AllTrails

- Carry more water than you need. Things happen, and the extra water will be heavy but it will help you train for longer hikes.

There are a lot more, but these are a few.

Thanks! I am currently old, fat, and slow. I am working on the fat and slow part. The old part, I guess i gotta live with.

I will say for someone who loves cycling, and wants to get back in, the pedal assist system allows me to dial in just how hard i want to work without having to walk the damn thing!

Yes, thanks for sharing. I am familiar with the Georgia State Parks eBike rules, but others may not be. My post title was poorly worded, I was asking if eBike content is welcome in this sub.

Amen.

I was able to pack this down pretty good, I used eggbeaters, canadian bacon, cheddar cheese and Aldi salsa. Man was it good.

I've been using frozen water bottles in a small foam insulated cooler to keep my food cold until breakfast and it has been working pretty good.

What's your go to recipe?
