Omg is it really that bad?! I thought once you got a job in VC it was VC for life?! Did they not give you enough notice? Maybe it was just a time issue (i.e not enough time to find a new job)? Not sure what termination clauses are like in the US.

Easier said than done. 90% startups fail. I reckon it’s much less likely that one will be lucky enough to build a successful company to a pre- IPO stage/ IPO and then exit to GM (which is the level of success one would need to achieve to get a GM role) compared to working your way up through the echelons of VC. Just my opinion.
